Sorry to say he's still at it. Just left me a voicemail, saying that he's interested in distributing our products to the 350 'mom and pop' customers of his. Went so far as to tell me that he is willing to prepay, and when I send the samples, I should also send necessary prepayment information. Glad I stumbled upon this site before I sent him anything.
Like the rest of the people here, something didn't sound right....NO ONE prepays for all orders. He requested a sell sheet, spec sheets - used all the usual language associated with buying CPG goods for distribution. He called me 6 weeks ago, and I left it - he followed up today asking for sell sheets and samples so I said I would be happy too, just needed his FedEx account number and I would sent products. He hung up pretty quick after that......
He tried calling our publishing company again today. He leaves voicemails and we just delete them. :)
He called me Friday, a year after his last call; asked me for 20-25 copies of my book so he could show them to synagogues and gift shops. When I asked how many copies he was thinking he would eventually order, he said 300-400. I told him I could manage that, but it would be cheaper for him to deal directly with CreateSpace, my printer. He was uninterested in that. Of course! CreateSpace wants their money up front! HE's not getting anything from me.
Aloha, I just received a call from him a few minutes ago--here in Hawaii. He called me twice before, and I tried to return his call, but he didn't call me back. I thought he sounded fishy! He said he only deals with "upscale" mom and pop stores and his customers were asking for my "mango fruit" products, but he couldn't tell me which one in particular and never went to my website. He also told me he prepays, which set off loud alarm bells in my head! I tried to explain about the high cost of shipping products from Hawaii, but he only seemed interested in getting the samples. I asked him for his website url, and he said he didn't have one! I googled his name and his "company" name and found this site instead. I'm sure he will call back and I'll know how to handle him!!
Michael Norman called our company about a year ago and demanded samples, said he was from Detroit Distribution, works with specialty food, sells to 350 mom and pop stores...all the same lines as reported here. I asked him to tell me the names of a few of his customers and he because abusive and hung up. He then called around to several other divisions of our business trying to scam them. I sent out a general alert email to everyone to beware of this guy.I just got a call from him a few minutes ago with the same script, only this time he said he was looking to buy overstock or damaged product. I have his number labeled as a SCAMMER, so I know not to ever answer. It doesn't seem like there's much we can do about this person, so just spread the word, I guess! Good luck everyone.
This guy has been calling me for years too. Same deal, asks for samples, leaves an address and return number. Claims he supplies Jewish Book Fairs. He has never once placed an order. He is relentless and calls me all the time. He is using another number now though, 248-809-3617.
The infamous Michael Norman is still at it . . . first called us 2-3 years ago with the EXACT same story! Never learns, but I suppose some people are fooled. He called again today and gave the same recital . . Pricelist and samples . . Mom and Pop shops. Uses a new number now 248-809-3617
Was told my a family member that Michael died over the weekend (July 3-4, 2015). No other comments were offered and I didn't want to ask. This chapter is now CLOSED.
