Power Windows came to our neighborhood and sure enough came to our door. I accepted an appointment. At first we were blown away with the price. I researched their product plus called a contractor that I knew. He told me to go for it but work the price down. So we had our front windows done with the intention that we would do the rest in a couple years. It was summer time and they did a fantastic job installing. I did not have to lift a finger and the inside and outside were spotless. A few days last I noticed when I went into a front room it was cooler than the rest of the house--the front faces southwest. I waited a month for our electric bill and was shocked to see it had gone down! I called them back and said do the rest of the house. Love, love, love, them. Needed a minor repair done 2 years later and they came within the week, repaired it and didn't charge a cent.
An A+ from better business bureau doesn't really mean all that much. It just means they paid a fee and are accredited. An A+ rating just means they are known to try and resolve complaints made against them in a timely fashion. Better Business Bureau doesn't actually endorse or evaluate any of the companies they rate and Specifically state on their web page that they make no claims as to Product Quality or the Compentency of the Company. In essence any company can pay a fee and become a member of the BBB in good standing. If a window company is only listing the BBB as a reference; I would be wary. Checking performance ratings from NFRC (National Fenestration Rating Council)- a nonprofit org that provides fair, accurate and credible info about windows, doors and skylights- is always helpful and can tell you how your windows performance rates compared to other companies windows. Windows should also qualify for Energy Star. Information about dealers and installers can also be found in Window & Door Magazine, which has a "Dealer of the Year" Award and Qualified Remodeler Magazine provides a Top Remodeler listing.....Needless to say a good Better Business Bureau Rating is the Least of the Qualifications you should be researching anytime a Remodeler is coming into your Home.....
This company "Power Home Remodeling Group" may be a legitimate company for home remodeling, but no one showed up for the appointment to estimate window replacements. I got several phone calls all day to confirm the time of our appointment from phone numbers 240-965-8500 and 610-874-5000. When I asked who is coming, the girl at the other end of the line could not answer. It's so weird. After having read stories from other people, I guess this is a company we want to avoid.
They came around door to door offering free estimates that were good for a year and I wasn't really interested. They pressured me into the estimate anyway and called repeatedly every day to confirm our appointment. I thought the appointment would only last a half hour to an hour but the guy was here with his presentation from 6 til midnight. The estimate for siding blew me away. $41,000 for siding on an old house in the city that's only 1500 sq ft?! And in retrospect, I think his math was off because the estimate was based on 3100 sq ft. The siding cost almost 50% of our home's value. He came down in the price by $11,000 if we signed that night and at 7% financing. If we didn't sign that night, our rate was something like almost 30%. The payments were almost twice our mortgage payment! We told the guy it wasn't feasible at all and was much much more than we thought in cost so he eventually left but now they call every day two & three times a day. It looks like a great product but I felt like it was a rip off and I wouldn't consider them in the future.
Some young men came by and gave me some literature on Power Windows and Siding. A salesman did come by and I did sign up for siding. I was already looking, actually thinking about doing it myself. But Iwanted a professional job and will have it done within 4 weeks. They have been very professional throughoutthis whole process.
