these people keep calling me and my parents, whom i have not lived with for 4 1/2 years. say they are with bb&t, yet they call all different times of the day. finally i was able to get a hold of someone when i called back at 9pm. said that my credit card was past due and i owe $10! really!! you call and harrass my parents and myself relentlessly over $10!! my mother works for bb&t and neither her nor her branch manager recognize this number. and i have had my credit card for more than 5 years now and there have been times when i was much more over due that $10 and i never got a call then. i dont trust these people... do not give them any info! i told the ignorant [***] i was on the phone with that i would tell her my name and that was it! i truley believe this is a scam of some kind
if they are unable to send you a copy of the outstanding debt, you don't owe a thing. Some of these companies buy bad debt from other companies hoping to pressure the people into paying. 50% of the time the people they call know nothing about the debt - the looking until the find a name like the debtor and harass them..sometimes if they call a phone number that now belongs to someone else, they will attempt to intimidate you by saying you have to prove you're not that person...hope this helps
I received a call on my cell phone and I was not able to answer it fast enough. The message left was from a man with a gruff voice saying, "John Doe (only subbed my husband's name) you need to call me. 8002896385." That was it. How this person got my cell number, I don't know. Exactly 28 minutes later I got another call from this number while I was away from my phone. Again, they left a message. This time it was blaring music with some incomprehensible wording at the end. They will be blocked. If this is a legit business, why would they not just call our home phone? We don't give out cell numbers to businesses.
This is legitimately BB&T. I have a credit card with BB&T, and I keep up with the payments...but if it goes over 5 days late (which occasionally for me it has been) they are on the phone calling me. Once I make the payment the calls stop. So -this is actually the bank BB&T calling - not a third party.
I have been harangued by these con artists for more than two years. I called my local bank branch and spoke with the account representative who handles my transactions there. She has confirmed for me that BB&T never calls its clients and asks them to verify information over the phone like this. DUH. You provided this information to the bank when you opened an account. BB&T is not so stupid as to think the last four digits of your SSN have changed. This is a PHISHING scam. In more than two years, I have contacted my local sheriff's department. They posted a release on their website. WOW. I have also reported this twice to the state attorney general's office. Their consumer fraud investigators are as inept as Barney Fife. They even sent me a letter from an alleged BB&T regional headquarters -- in different city from which it is actually located -- stating they were, in fact, with BB&T. FTC, Attorney General's office, Do Not Call Bullcrap -- good luck getting anything associated with a government agency to work the way it's supposed to.
I am paying a debt for another person, BB&TI made a payment last week to completely pay it off.But they are still deducting from my bank each month. When I call I get someone who WILL NOT talk to her supervisor, or let me!One month they took 2 payments out.
I HAVE A CREDIT LINE THROUGH OVERDRAFT PROTECTION FROM A CHECKING ACCT WITH BB&T AND THEY ONLY CALL ME WHEN I DO NOT MAKE A PAYMENT (IF A MISS A MONTH OR TWO OR THREE LOL). SO THIS IS A LEGIT NUMBER.
Yes - it is BB&T. I have an account with them, and I usually pay it on time. However, if it is even a week late they are calling me 2-3 times a day until it is paid - I have answered, and they are very nice to work with. I usually recognize the number and ignore them until payday, then the calls stop!
Received a phone call from this number. There was a recording that said "please hold for an important message from BB&T." A man then came on the line and fed me some personal information regarding my wife (did not give a representative ID) and I said "yes, the recording said there was an important message, what's the message?" The individual on the other line hung up on me without saying a word. Her account is in good standing, though now we have moved to a state that does not have many if-any accessible branches, a rude call interrupting my Sunday is the final bit of causality to encourage us to liquidate and close our accounts. USAA (now open to everyone, not just the Military) has the best customer service I have ever seen in business, but specifically in a financial institution.
