A missed call shows this number this noon. The odd part is that it charged my prepaid cell $$, even it's missed - nobody answer it. BTW, I am with Rogers.

Found a fantastic way to deal with telemarketers. When they call and ask for someone tell them you will go get them and put the phone down on the table. Leave them on hold while you go about your business. Eventually they get the hint and take your name out of their data base. I have also heard that when a call comes through and there is a pause, that is their automated system recording time of day that someone is home to actually answer the phone. This then tells the telemarketers when it is a good time to reach us. Supposedly if you continually hit the # button quickly, it screws up their system and it kicks that phone number out of their data banks. Don't know if it works, haven't tried it. I get a call from this number 3 times a day and it only rings 2 or 3 times. By the time I get up to actually see who the number is..they have hung up without leaving a message! The least they could do is give people time to reach the phone!

hi peopleyou might have talked to me lol...i used to work for this cibc departement and theyre financial services reps, just like at the branch, but over the phone...they used to ask for dob and postal code but now its just full address...if you give that info to them and they still cant say exactly what you have with cibc then its a scam..but scammers cant do anything with just your name and address...anywys i know why people are sooo cautious these days, but there should be a limit to your cautiousness....if you want your name off the list, just say it ploitely, but be specific, and they wont call again....problem solved....but dont forget about the potential saving you might have missed out on, like if youre overpaying some charges, or if your debts are mismanaged, i say its in your best interest to take the call, decline unattractive offers, and get a financial healthcheck. after all this is your bank for a REASON. take careeee

I'm alongside the above poster here: "Hi, it's Brendan Fisher calling from CIBC, can I please speak to Dave Smith?"I did this exact job. They are Financial Service Reps, truly working for CIBC. As 'funny' said, we used to ask for date of birth and postal code (two innocuous pieces of information easily available in public records. Now they ask for your mailing address, which is something anyone can find on Canada411, but it's a way to make sure the right person is answering the phone. If you want to make sure it's them, give them your current address and then ask them immediately something like "what's the current balance in my chequing account?" They should be able to tell you right away, down to the penny. That information is on their TelAgent or COINS screen (two CIBC applications). They're probably trying to sell you a new chequing account, or a Visa, or most likely, INSURANCE. Believe me, they forced us to sell insurance like nothing else. Hospital Protection Plan. Hospital Insurance Plan. Accidental Death. Credit Insurance.

Got a call from this number, a female stated that she was from CIBC and had some important information about my accounts. She then immediately requested my home address so I reminded her that she called me, and I asked HER for my home address. After a couple of minutes of back and forth, I hung up and emailed CIBC from at their feedback email address. I pasted the exchange below, where CIBC advised me that the number is legitimate. That being said, given that according to posts above they are only trying to sell you something, if I get another call in the future I simply won't answer it. Despite her trying to give me the impression that there was a problem with my accounts, my accounts are just fine - nothing but a shady sales tactic. If you get a call from this number, just save yourself the aggravation and ignore it.-------------------------Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate the time you have taken to write us. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience you have experienced. After further investigation, I was able to confirm that the telephone number is for the CIBC Outbound Call Centre. CIBC does outsource Telemarketing companies to promote some services on our behalf. Nevertheless, the clients are usually not asked for account information. For future reference in order to verify if a call was indeed from CIBC, you can contact our Outbound Customer Reassurance Line at 1-888-831-8818. Please be advised that the team that answers e-mail does not have access to your accounts or personal information. We can't complete your request. Thank you for visiting www.cibc.com. This individual advised that she was calling in regards to my accounts and requested personal information to verify my identity. I declined to provide any information as I was uncomfortable doing so. I am writing to inquire if this telephone number is in fact a CIBC call centre, for my own future reference. I appreciate contact from CIBC, especially if there is an issue with my accounts, but I am not willing to provide personal information during an unsolicited telephone call. Thank you for your time

Use caution people - this number does not appear to be what you may initially think it is!!! I believe this may, from previous documented comments, perhaps be an "old" telemarketing number used by CIBC. It may not however still be being used by them for anything, including telemarketing purposes. I am however suspicious, given my undernoted experience, that it MAY perhaps now be utilized for DEBT collection calls. Particularly where a "problem" customer won't answer the phone when the caller ID notes it is the bank calling, and the individual will not answer such calls. I have ceased answering calls which my caller ID identifies as CIBC - and very strangely since doing so, it appears that I am now receiving calls from this specific number, which others have rightly or unrightly identified as CIBC!! I do not believe, as you will shortly humourously understand, I very much doubt they are trying to telemarket me for their services, LOL. I do not have any accounts with them. These calls are, I believe, concerning another family member's bank account, which I understand from previous messages left, may be a long past due, overdrawn account with them. As this is no longer this individual's contact number, and as I do not believe it is my responsibility to provide them with another contact phone number, it "appears" to me to be likely that they may have decided that calling my number constantly will inconvenience and annoy me to the point I will give them another number to torture. I do not answer their calls at all - (I do not think it is up to me to circumvent privacy laws by giving them the same private information they are apparently not allowed to divulge to me, i.e., would they give ME the phone number they have on file if I asked them for it?? I think not!! This is precisely the reasoning behind the privacy legislation, i.e., an ex-spouse can no longer acquire their spouse's personal contact information from that persons bank... like duh... and yet the bank is still allowed to seek, via harrassment methods no less, the very same information from another family member - this is a double standard here!!) Regardless, it seems that since this number was previously listed as a possible contact number to get ahold of them, I apparently have no recourse to stop these constant calls. Thus, while I cannot legally state as "fact" that the above situation is contributable to, and/or is, without doubt, the bank, I am nonetheless suspiciously presuming it may very well be, and that you are being asked for your date of birth and other personal info to legally confirm for the caller, whoever that may be, that under the same privacy laws, they are trying to ensure they are speaking to their debtor directly - BEFORE, of course, properly announcing their true identity as disguised debt collectors. So again people, if you have an old debt with a Bank or another creditor, make sure you do NOT confirm your personal details, as this can be used a confirmation that they have had CONTACT with you. In most provinces, they cannot sue you after a period of two years has passed, however, if you give them even ONE contact confirmation, make ONE payment, or even make payment arrangements, you are confirming the existence of the debt, and the two year period starts all over again from the date they last made personal contact with you!!! There should be legislation preventing creditors from constantly harrassing and contacting a family member or friend to procure supposedly protected private information. Privacy laws were enacted for a purpose, and this should be one of them, however, there seems to always be a loophole to get around the intended purpose of a law, per usual. Oh, and where people are asked on credit applications to list "contacts" for "emergency" purposes, think student loans for example, what they are really doing is getting their "caller" list to torture your contacts if you default on your loan. Never give out this info, and never give out your cell #.

Hello! I have some answers to your questions as I worked in a call centre to putty way through school. Firstly never ever give out your social insurance number ever! Asking for date of birth ( usually just the year) is a way of putting clients suggestions and comments into categories, and please note you always have the right to refuse to answer any questions! I have no idea why they would ask about your postal code perhaps for the same reason, yet to me that sounds sketchy. I had this number call my phone lots of times but I never answered it. There are some legit companies like Malatest opinion search etc that do do customer service work for banks but I would be wary of any telemarketers. If someone calls you and says it is a customer service call they may not sell you anything that is the law. Additionally I am sad to see that someone swore at someone they were calling that is extremely rude. Calling people is invasive and if they ask questions that is their right. In terms of the answering the phone and no one answers ; many call centers in fact almost all use a computer to dial numbers. Many of these systems have a feature that allows the computer to scan calls and use it's discretion to cancel out answering machines. Sometimes this system drops live calls. I hate it for that reason. Additionally I would like to add that when I worked there I always tried to take my break at the most popular dinner hours. Unfortunately I did not have much control over the hours I worked so if I happened to disrupt anyone at meal time I am sorry!!! I know how annoying that is! Bottom line don't answer if you don't feel comfortable it is not worth the risk!

Call received at 09:43 a.m. on Wednesday, 18 December 2024. No caller identifier was given, so I let the answering machine pick up. No message was left. The call originated in Calgary, AB.
It’s a number verifying that you changed your voicemail code. Not anything bad.
