Got a couple of calls from this number about student loan forgiveness. I am a co-signer for a student loan but checked here to see if it was legit. The name she left (Bree Smith) is different than the name that comes up on the caller ID. I didn't check the number, but am sure it was different than the number I wrote down from the message.
I have had several phone calls multiple times over the past 5 months and it's always a lady telling me she is calling about my student loan, which I don't have. This is the number she says to call back. SCAM
I have four times as many phone numbers blocked as I have on my contact list. It has really gotten ridiculous. I never answer unknown numbers, and if they don't leave a message, I don't call them back. And if they leave a ridiculous message like this I don't call them back. I'm 60 years old and paid for my college with no loans taken. It was an inexpensive State College. When I googled "Bree Smith" I got the weather lady from North Carolina, channel NC5 or something So assumed North Carolina. I added "student loan" and "phone call", All of these in double quotes as I have posted here, and it seems that stammering tape recording of someone who sounds American is being used all over the damn place! These poor senior citizens who respond to these son of a b..tches. And I guess not only seniors, there are a lot of people who are not aware that such things happen. Obviously they are making money scamming or they wouldn't still be in business.
Scam phone call claiming to be for student loan forgiveness. They are just phishing for information to rip you off. The number they called from is spoofed and belongs to a real person who is not involved with the scam. The 888 number may not even be located in the United States.
Definite scam originating overseas. Got the same voicemail from a "Brie Smith" that others received. For fun (it's my day off) I called the 888 number given in the message. The static on the line and the waiting time on hold was a pretty clear indication that the call was being forwarded to somewhere else. After a couple of minutes a woman with an obvious Indian accent came on the line, called it the "Loan Forgiveness Department". She asked me if I had a student loan, I told her "no", and she hung up.
Claims to be Brie Smith calling about student loan forgiveness but I've never had a student loan. The number she leaves as a call back number is different than the number she called with
