This is very true. Just got a call, and i kept saying i was NOT interested but they insisted and insisted. Eventually i said NO flat out and the "supervisor" seemed bothered and told me to have a nice day. I'm just a college student, i dont need this.
I, for one, work for one of these companies and basically it's a telemarketing company that works for a CPS. Our job is to inform you that you have been entered into the sweepstakes. Now no matter what you do, you HAVE BEEN entered in the sweepstakes. The job of the guy on the phone is to inform you this. The questions they as you in the survey is not beyond anything a cars salesman would ask. They are asking for preferences so that they don't try and sell you a magazine for old people when you're a 21 year old student. There's nothing wrong with it. The reason they are persistent is because this IS there job and they are paid on commission, so don't blame it on them, they are doing what they are a hired to. I worked for a while in the outbound calls and the main problem that I had was that people automatically would be rude. I did not do anything wrong, what happens is that you're name and number shows up on a computer and I have to go through the motions. NOW, if you're wondering how your name and number got on that list, that is YOUR own fault. Major list brokers sell it to the CPS company which is Central Publication Services, a magazine company. and we are a stuck talking to you.THIS IS NOT A SCAM! The product that they are selling is legit, because where else in the world would you find a deal of buying a weekly magazine, and getting 3 more for free for 4.99. They give you the option to switch and plus you a get a watch. now if you don't want that then fine but please be less rude because the person on the line is only trying to make a living and is not trying scam you. So please stop complaining. If you're getting more then one call, don't yell at the guy on the phone because everything is automated, that guy has no idea that you have been called more then once. If you don't want to get calls from them, stop signing up for stupid things online and don't have a credit card. And if they do call, for the sake of the other guy's sanity, wait for him to finish his first phrase and simply ask to be put on the DO NOT CALL LIST. DON'T just hang up on him or you'll just get another call from someone else in the company and end up ruining his day. DON'T just say I'm not interested, because you didn't even give him the chance to explain anything so of course he'll be insistent. And for the love of god, DON'T insult the guy, because like you, he is just doing his job and trying make ends meet.People like to get things for free but they don't like spending. Companies are then stuck trying to sell things in sneaky ways by offering sweepstakes and deals and paying telemarketing companies to do the dirty work.
there is a way out. I didn't want to do it the whole time so finally said yes to it all, and immediately after called the customer care number 18667175628, told them i didn't want it and they got rid of it for me :) good luck
I understand having a telemarketing job, it is a hard job, and I was very kind to the person on the other line, but if you don't like the promotion and felt you were forced into it, call 18667175628. It's the customer service, they will take care of everything.
Thanks for providing that number, but I sat on hold for 10 minutes before hanging up when no one answered! I guess if they call me back, I will ask to talk to a manager immediatelyThe guy on the phone was extremely rude and flat out lied to me. He was asking invasive questions when I have no idea who he was. He got very upset when I told him I wouldn't answer questions without knowing who I was speaking to. He just kept insisting that I would get a free watch and would be entered into the sweepstakes anyway. I told him I didn't want to be entered into the sweepstakes and he said "well you are anyway!" He kept trying to ask in many different ways about my marital status asking me if I was going to go talk to my husband about it or not. And "should I call you Ms. or Mrs.?" Seriously???? If he even dared ask for my credit card information, I would have gone apeshit on him! Plus, good to know he flat out LIED that he was from Utah.... I knew there was something fishy about that accent.... Canada. He said that the reason the zip code was local to me was because it was a dialing system.... whatever. I understand you have to make a living, but I think you'd get a better response if you were honest that this is a really good deal and that people should listen for a few minutes.
Actually people are rude in general, when called by ANYONE other then someone they know. Believe me, I know I have experience. After Telesolutions, I worked for this company that did surveys on the phone. There was nothing to sell but I still angry people all the time. Some even threaten to sue me because they were on the DNC list, but that list only applies to telemarketers, not survey interviewers. Anyways the job is all about who can control the call. That's why they speak fast and with authority. Now this was definitely new 'cause I never ask if it was a male or female but it is part of the survey. Now if he had called you and said: "Listen I have a great deal for you", you would hang up right away. This job relies on the impulse buyer and that's what they try to exploit. The deal is not bad, but for someone to buy it with thought is impossible. It's like when you're at the grocery store and you get a magazine while waiting in line. You did not plan it, it just happened. This is what they try to exploit. Now he never lied about anything, it's illegal. When you answered he told his name and from CPS, Draper Utah. That is the location of the company that hired the telemarketing company. That how it works, he doesn't have to give you his last name, or that his from winnipeg because the magazine company is not winnipeg based. But the sweepstakes, the watch and the deal is true, but it's said in a confusing way to get you to impulse buy.I hope this clears it up. The person on the other line is not bad. He's not in charge, he's just an employee. Because the job is an impulse job too. The same way they try to get you to buy mags. is the same way they got tricked in the job. He can quit but he won't get his training pay for another 90 shifts.
now this guy never told you he was from utah he said cps based out of drapper utahm people just need to open there ears, and why are you so worried about the guy knowing if your married or single?
Just because they find loopholes to pay people for doing this does not mean it isn't a SCAM, likewise, just because people that work for them very well could be convinced that what they are doing is legit, does not mean that it is. I asked for specific information and the 'supervisor' kept talking about what he was offering and completely ignored questions he didnt have an answer to. However, when I asked a question that he had a prerehearsed response to, he was happy to give me his analogy of magazines to ordering pizza. I wanted to either get mailed a catalog for verification of legitimacy and to see what other magazines I could get besides the dumb three that i was offered for being a guy, and he flat out said no, we dont rights to do that. I asked him why if he can send out a catalog WITH someone's subsciption why couldn't he send out a catalog WITHOUT a subscription and he said 'you dont order pizza and tell them you aren't going to pay until you get it' hahahahahaha, i said that's interesting because two days ago I had pizza hut deliver and didn't pay them until the delivery person showed up at my door with the pizza!!! So I grilled the guy and spent almost 25 minutes on the phone with him to hassle him and props for not hanging up, but at the same time ignoring things I say and repeating the same bs youve already said three times isn't helping your case. I told him if he couldn't send me a catalog before giving him my money then we need to end the conversation. He said 'their system isn't set up to do that' and I said ok, I appreciate your time but no thanks. HE LAUGHED AND HUNG UP!!! What kind of salesperson laughs at customers and hangs up without saying anything. Salespeople know that you are going to be told no more than yes, and to be respectful and appreciative regardless of a sale or not. He was well rehearsed with bs answers that hopefully wouldn't fool a twelve year oldIt's too bad that cellular numbers became public legislation recently - gave a dying out breed of scammers a new breath of life and made the general public that much more irritable throughout their daily ventures. I really really hope someone gets a chuckle from me writing this and that every single person who answers one of these jokers calling asks a hundred questions and never ever stops until the caller hangs up when they realize the fruitlessness of their efforts, or someone you know is trying to call. WHAT BOTHERS ME THE MOST ABOUT ALL THIS IS THAT THEY ARE SUCCESSFUL ENOUGH AND GOOD ENOUGH AT DOING THIS AND FINDING LOOPHOLES AND EVADING THE LAW BECAUSE THEY KNOW HOW DIFFICULT IT IS FOR SMALLER INDIVIDUALS TO GET ANYWHERE AGAINST A WELL FINANCIALLY BACKED ENTITY. BUT THEY WOULDNT HAVE BECOME SO GOOD AT IT OR BECAME SUCH AN ENTITY OF PEOPLE STOPPED BEING IDIOTS!!!!
