Received mechanical voice call identifying call from Amazon that they were verifying a charge to my account for a computer. After the recording, a man picked up with an accent and I couldn't understand what he was saying. Hung up and contacted Amazon. There was no charge to my account and Amazon will investigate. SCAM. By the way, I am 72 years old, a retired government employee who process security applications. Love catching and reporting these leeches!!!!
88 year old Mother in Law receives a call from her grand daughter stating that she's in jail for DUI and running a red light and hitting a pregnant women. MIL calls my wife. My wife calls the "Public Defender" for the county in Illinois using this telephone number. My wife is falling to pieces as this douchbag milks the need for her to send $2500.00 in cash to get her out of jail. I speak to John Williams and something doesn't add up. Why is someone calling from Trumbull, CT but states that he's a public defender in the state of Illinois? After running a search on line, this number is shown to be SCAMMER. I call Daughter and she answers the telephone stating that she's been in bed sick for the last three days. When "John Williams" calls me back, I very clearly let him know what a low life he is to call an 88 year old grandmother and try to scam money using a Trumbull, CT y\telephone number and that he's beyond stupid.
My elderly parents just sent $5k to these f'ers. I'm attempting to work with law enforcement to do a reverse lookup with their service provider (yes, I'm a computer nerd, so I understand how we can trace back to these guys). The number shows as a land line, but it's probably VoIP tied to an email address. Once I have that information, I hope to track them down.
Callers prey on the elderly claiming a relative is in jail. One plays the relative's attorney and the other plays the relative, who has trouble speaking because their nose is broken. The attorney asks for cash for bail and not to inform anyone else in the family because the relative is embarrassed.
Callers claim to be a relative who is in jail following an accident and the relative's attorney, asking for bail money and to not notify anyone else in the family because the relative is embarrassed. Hang up and block them.
