Answered the phone and got an automated recording stating "due to circumstances beyond our control we cannot complete this call. We will contact you later"
This is a scam, I called the number back 10 times, got the same guy claiming to be a IRS officer. He was also the same guy on the recording. After I question him, he hung up! I called him again and this time, I gave him a few choice "Old English" words, the little coward then hung up again. I have family that works for the IRS and if you get a call from a IRS line it's going to come from a secured line, either NO number or all "0000000!" so don't be alarmed, give' Em a few choice words!!!!! Have heard from the lil' coward since!
Got a phone call at 7:47pm on 8/16/2012 stating that I needed to call back by 8:00pm (caller ID said IRS and to call 1-800-829-7650 and give them a case number that they left in the message). Suspecting a scam, I called the number back from my cell number and it sounded legit, so I decided to plug the number into google and found out this is a scam for sure.
I RECIVED A CALL FROM 559-459-6642,559-459-9173 they said it was the IRS the they lost my 2009 taxes an i needed to fax them to them asap , this meassage was left on my voice mail . i called back an left several meassges, I told them they were a scam , IRS dont called people on thier cell phones . I called again an young women claiming to an IRS AGENT SAID SHE WAS SENDING THE POLICE TO MY HOUSE TO HAVE ME ARRESTED. i TOLD HER SEND THEM. I'M STILLING AWAITING FOR THE POLICE, i LEFT ANOTHER MESSAGE ,I'M Still waiting for police.CALL THEM BACK AN FILL UP THIER VOICE MAIL BOX. CURSED THEM OUT ,ITS FEELS GREAT TO BEAT THEM AT THIER OWN GAME LMAO
I received a call from this same # at 8:33 pm tonight and then again at 8:35 pm. No message was left. I immediately went to google and found your site. I called the number back and amazingly, it said the number was disconnected. Obviously a scam.
I received a call from 716-206-3218. They left a recorded message saying they were the IRS and left a call back number of 800-829-7650. The recording gave a case number to refer to. It turns out this was a legit call from the IRS.The 716 number is a number from which IRS automatic calls are generated. The 800 number is the IRS. If you feel uncomfortable calling back the 716-206-7650 number, you can call back 800-829-1040, which is the main IRS number I called back, gave them the reference number, which they acknowledged was real and they discussed a legit issue with me. The IRS person who handled my call also had an ID number. The IRS does call people - usually with a recorded message and case number. Just be careful, because there ARE DEFINITELY scammers out there.
I received the same phone call, knowing the IRS doesn't make phone calls I decided to just see what they say. I got through to a rep and I could hear about 30 others in the back ground. The man got mad b/c I questioned who he worked for and then says I am legit I gave you my ID number....and then he hung up...big scam
I got a call from 716-206-3218, robo call gave the 800-829-7650 number with a case number. It was a legit call from the IRS. Turns out, I had recently moved, and there were documents that were sent to the old address that I have never seen, and all that is true. When I mentioned that I was leery of this being a scam, he said I could simply take the case number into any IRS office and they would explain things.
we got this call twice- first got the "due to circumstances beyond our control we cannot complete this call. We will contact you later", then got the other message that said to call back by 8 p.m., with an ID number. I called the 1800# they left (if you call back this number, you get a disconnect notice) back, and it asked for a social security number, not the number left on the voicemail. We hung up at that point- that was all they asked for to identify the caller, and we knew at that point for sure there was nothing official about this.
