Received a letter in the mail, that my mortgage hasn't been paid. 1st of all I do not owe money my home as it is paid off.
Received one of these cards the other day and, as usual, was highly suspicious and skeptical of its nature. Googled the number and sure enough there are multiple reports online about this being a spearfishing scam disguised as an attempt to "lower your mortgage payments" while the real reason is they are trying to get your vital personal information, particularly SSN#. Schmucks!!!!
We received one of these ridiculous yellow postcards. I immediately Googled the phone number because we KNEW it was a scam and we were right. I do not even answer the phone anymore if I do not recognize the number. My husband just shredded it and a bunch of other mail that is useless.
Does anyone really think an actual company that wants your legit business would send out basic postcards with no company name/address and no identifying info at all? That some of these responders think they are the smartest cookie in the bag because they figured out it MIGHT be a scam is just utterly amazing to me. Even if you are as dumb as a bag of rocks, I can't imagine ANYONE falling for this. It's 2019, not 1953.
I got a yellow postcard with same information. Because it was bright yellow, I thought it must be important. I called the number right away. A very nice man with a heavy foreign accent answered. I couldn't understand most of what he said, but I understood he needed the name and number of my current mortgage. He told me he could reduce my payments. I gave him the info and my bank account numbers because I have automatic payments on my account. He then needed my SS number, which I was hesitant to give him, but he promised it was Okay, so I gave it to him. He then put me on hold for over 20 minutes. I got tired of waiting, so I hung up. I'll try to call him back tomorrow and see if he's not as busy. I don't think it was a scam because he seemed so nice and helpful.
Received a postcard supposely from Veridian Credit Union about the mortgage loan. Very obviously a SCAM as Veridian Would NOT send a postcard. How stupid do these scammers think we are. They are frickin IDIOTS!!!! Another dead give away is there is an empty space where these scammers can fill in the name of a credit union, bank or other financial institution.
Per other comment I had also received postcard stating loan closed out and require immediate response. No way to verify as it was the weekend. Decided to look and see if number is a scam. It most likely is a scam as it is not same mortgage ID and different mortgage company as what I’m currently using. If you’re unsure call your mortgage company and not the number on the postcard!!!
