When I answered the call the caller hung up and I tried several times calling the number back and it goes to voice mail each time I call back. I also got the call on my cell phone. I thought that it might had been somebody that I knew, that is the reason for me calling the number back. I also thought that I did not answer the phone in time and that is why the caller hung up. But it did not seem right that every time I call the number back I get no answer back and I go right to voice mail.

Caller ID "Cell Phone NY" ... Jun 16@2:56pm EDT and Jun 17@12:33pm EDT… I do not answer calls I don't know. They did not leave a message. 800notes indicate this is a SCAMMER!

Called me, didn't answer. Glad I didn't. But it probably cost me $0.10. Grrr.

The Do Not Call list is not a blocking service so no matter how your number is dialed, the call will get through. They way it works is legitimate telemarketers register with the FTC and pay a fee to access the list. If they are a larger volume caller they download relevant sections of the entire database and program their computers to remove any numbers on the DNC list from the calling lists they are using. If they are a small volume caller, they access the list via a web interface and check the small amount of numbers they wish to call manually to see if they are on the list. Scammers such as this caller are not about to register and pay a fee to access the list to remove numbers from potential marks.
