I believe there is a statue of limitations once a debt has reached a certain time frame.(2 yrs I think)..After that they cannot legally collect from you providing you have not paid anything or admitted to the debt during those two years.(Canadian law)

Collection agencies cannot legally collect funds after 2 yrs. it's the law. It's statute barred under the stature of limitations law. Please note, if you recognize this debt by making a payment, or sending them any letters or any correspondence, the 2 yrs start over. So, let them know if they call. Tell them that the law gave them 2 yrs which has passed,so remove your name and phone number. If it hasnt been 2 yrs, hope they don't sue before time limit passes. Ignore them, until it does. Let them threaten. It means nothing. Good luck!

i have been receiving calls from these people for 6 months yet i never heard a peep from them in 12 yrs about an outstanding debt. I was lead to beleive that there was insurance on this debt to cover the loss of myself or my spouse and it was to be wiped out upon the verification of the death.

I have been receiving calls from these people twice a day for the last two weeks. I have never spoken to them however I know they are calling regarding a student loan. This loan was settled outside of court and I am now making regular payments. how do I get them to stop calling me?

Best way to stop the calls - change your number & make it unlisted. Treat that new number like gold, and don't give it out or post it online. (The fewer people that know it the better). That will stop the calls.Alternate solution, turn off v-mail and only use text. Collection companies don't use text messaging as it is still too expensive for thier dialiers. Once the dialler has tried your number several times and not got a live answer or v-mail, it will automaticly drop the number from its call list. I should know, I wrote the program that does this.

they phone me at 6am or at 7 am, am getting tired of dealing with people that don't understand English and French..

I explained to them, that I was on on limited income. Disability pension, and the guy on the other end say's that I have a phone and TV. all my money goes to bills, and groceries..

I get at least 3 calls/week from them. Called back from work, which is a law firm. It's Active Capital, indeed, trying to rekindle old debts that should not be in the legal system after 2 years.

These guys started calling me, don't know why I haven't owed anything to anyone in over 10 years or so. I just added them to some call-blocker I got for free somewhere in the Android store, they don't bother me anymore.
