A male caller with a thick foreign accent said his name was "Michael Williams" and that he was the senior investigator with the investigation department of the 'American state government'. Said he was calling about 3 allegations related to a federal banking violation pertaining to an online loan that I did not repay and something to do with checks, etc. When asked he gave his employee id # (no doubt fake) LA220420785, and I asked him why he was calling from an international number (shows up on my caller id as 0115083421543 (only international numbers begin with 0). He said "fine you can speak with my lawyer" and transferred me, and we went through the routine again. The lawyer said (with a thick accent) his name was Charlie Williams (guess they were running out of ideas) and he began asking me to verify information. I asked him repeatedly what the allegations were and he began to explain that if I did not cooperate that a virus would be uploaded to my computer and that men would arrive to arrest me for breaking the law. By which time I'd had my amusement and hung up. They tried calling back with the same number, which I ignored. They did not leave any messages.
