The company Alert Soft called me. The guy I talked with asked for my wife by her first name and said his name was Sam Jorden. He was very convincing and said he was a rep from Hewlett Packard. He was alerted that my computer had been broken into and to stop using it right away. My information was being stolen and a scan was necessary to clean the files that had been broken into. This guy was very convincing as I mentioned. I allowed him access to my system and he was running a scan of the hard drive. He was showing me all the files that had errors and several that showed warnings. What he was actually doing was erasing all my data. After I realized what what was going on, I unplugged all my cords going into my computer. He said if I wanted my data back I needed to purchase the software package from them. I hung up the phone. Lucky for me only a few files had been erased. ( Pictures, Music) I had them backed up. I took my computer into Staples and they ran a scan on it. Removed the codes Alert Soft had put in allowing them future access to my system and I called the Better Business Bureau in New Jersey to report this company. This is a on-line company only with no business address. The BBB couldn't help but gave me another phone number to report this problem through. Just be aware of this scam and don't give anyone any information over the phone. The only way to be sure is to contact someone yourself. If someone contacts you it is probably a scam. The telephone number they gave me to call them back on was 609-531-0750
What a Scam, my scammer's name was 'Brad Williams" - that name sure didn't go with his accent at all. Never let anyone into your computer. That was red flag #1.
We have been called several times by this number. At first we said we were not interrested mainly because we could not understand what the people were saying. On one call my wife asked for a number to call back because she wanted to talk to them when I was home. We were told to ask for a Shawn who identified himself as a Windows 7 tech. We couldn't understand him so they gave a person named James the phone who we still had problems understanding but we went along with him for a while until he wanted us to run a file from www.seemypc.com. This is where we stopped and told him we would take our computer to the place of purchase because we just bought it. they said the company was a scam.
The bellow reports are happening again. A gentleman called and claimed to be from microsoft and wanted access to the computer. I am IT professional and this is obviously a scam. Don't worry too much about computer security unless you fell for the trap. If you did fall for it, unplug your computer from the internet AND DO NOT PLUG IT BACK IN until you get your family IT consultant to give it the green light. Silly scammers.
thats my story too, What a fool I was to believe someone who sounded, and showed me, more than what I understood. Its a shame we have to learn the hard way!
I just revceived a call from Microsoft windows services saying that my computer was infected and they would help me resolve the issue. They wanted me to sign onto my computer and they would guide me thru the steps to fix the problems. They too gave me 609 531-0750 as a call back number but I laughed and hung up on them. I spoke to a ( lady ) named Michelle. She had an indian or pakistan type accent and was a little hard to understand.
I just received a call saying there was a problem and they were getting alerts theat my computer was notifying them. It souded very suspisious to me and was not taking the chance. I just received a call asking for the business owner. I said speaking a male stated that he was from a website marketing company or Google. I could not make it out. He then started telling me how my competitors are showing up when my line of work is googled and that I can be on top. ETC...I responded that I needed to meet a client and for him to leave me his phone number. I was given 609-531-0750. The number originally showed up blocked on my caller ID
I just received a call from this number. Said that they were an official microsoft support and received information from my computer that it has been downloading malware for some time and wanted me to sit at the computer (as he gets lippy because I have a hard time understanding) and need to repeat himself. so yes I sat at the computer as he dictated were to go I WROTE it down. Told him if he could send me a true technician I won't do it over the phone. After I got home from work I typed in the stuff he said out of curiousity, yes there were warning and errors, but the computer runs just fine.... WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE!!!!

As you may have noticed I just copied the above comment, because mine was exactly the same. The guys name was Max and he called me at least eight times, because I would not enter the information in my computer and I finally told him I was going to report him and to never call me again.
