the man told me I had won a $1000 shopping spree, and when I told him I wasn't interested, he kept trying to force it on me. I finally said "Listen, I'm a college student at a tough university; I really don't have time to do this, anyway ..." he cut me off and INSULTED me. He demanded to know how I got into college if I'm not smart enough to accept a free $1000 shopping spree!!I hung up on him, really upset, and thought about calling back to yell at the supervisor -- then I found this page and heard other people have been nearly-scammed by these people, so I decided to post what happened to me and make sure others know. (Also, who knows what MORE info they'll get if you call back!)Anne (PROUD to be College of William and Mary Class 2009!)
Called from "The Publisher" and said I had won a shopping spree. This was interesting, and I went with it. They had my address, and I gave an alternate phone number, but luckily that's on the no-call list now. The initial call was fine; I had only received a shopping spree and a set of magazines to pay for. The problem was, however, that I had never confirmed or denied my "subscription" in any way... just the address. So, I get this call back, and a woman tells me she's supervising the other caller. She wants to confirm my call. I confirm the call, but then she asks about having the magazines sent out to me. They needed a credit card number. Duh! If they had it, then they would have no trouble saying, "We will be billing it to your XX whatever." I'm looking in the mail for some stuff to send off to our attorney general, and I took the precautions of calling my all of my cards, etc. to let them watch for this foolhardy company to try me.
Someone called on 3/11 at 7pm from "Publishing" claiming to tell me I won $1000 online shopping spree. I said I wasn't interested and how he got my number (my cell number). He said he wasn't selling anything and proceeded to continue his script. He finally asked me my age (22) and occupation (Student), then said I should look forward to the shopping spree in the mail. He never asked for my address. I guess I was just scammed out of my age and occupation.
We've been getting calls from this number 715-394-5774 & other area code #715's. No one ever says anything. It sometimes sounds like a fax sound, other times they just hang up or it rings & when the answering machine picks up they hang up. What's up with this? Is someone just seeing if we're home? Can someone do something about this? I see online that others are having the same problem.HELP, PLEASE!!
I work for the publishers, and there is no catch.I mean you get 5 of your fav magazines, and a 1000dallor shopping spree. You can't go wrong with that.
He called me twice saying he was looking for me and his name was Aaron Hanson and my friend told him it was the wrong number and he was like NO THIS IS HER NUMBER
yes i work for this company, and yes there is no catch.nothing is free in this world remember. So yah the 1000 shopping spree is just a gift they give you for paying that small cost to maintain the magazine service
Got a call tonight after 8pm from this number. Sounded like my call was being transferred. I waited after a few seconds of silence and hung up.
