On DNC and wish they would enforce sanctions to stop the constant phone calling harassment. Not leaving a message signals their negative intent.

I received a call just a few minutes ago. Since caller ID came up "unknown", I hung up on the second ring without answering. I was interested to read the above posts and find out that the call was from United Healthcare. I had Medigap insurance with AARP for the past 2 years, but I discontinued it, and as of Feb.1st, I am using another company. Two weeks ago I notified United Healthcare that I want my policy to end on Jan. 31st, and I received a conformation letter from them earlier today. Therefore, United Healthcare would have no reason to call me anymore, so I'm not sure these calls are from AARP. It sounds like a scam to me.

I only discovered this was AARP by doing a reverse call search. AARP has been cited many times for supporting far left activities and deceptive advertising. I also discovered that United Health Care, of which I am a member, does NOT require AARP membership to use. I only learned this after phone calls to various AARP departments. AARP claims to be non-political but they are not. I will not support any political agency which cloaks itself as "a friend of senior citizens" and resorts to unwanted calls without the nerve to give out a caller id.

Not necessarily a scam. I had just signed up and they called to make sure I received everything (ID card, program documents, etc.). When they asked for my name and DOB I politely told them that I don't give out that information to anyone that calls in to me. The representative very politely replied with, "No problem sir. If you have any questions, please call 800-523-5800. This is our customer service number. Have a good day."I was already aware that this was the customer service number but I still don't give out any information unless I call them. The representative was very polite and accommodating, which certainly would not have been the case if this was a "telemarketing scam".

Everything is now a scam to everyone! Since you posted this on January 19th and you wanted it to discontinue on January 31st, maybe they are calling to verify your intent and to make sure that you have no further questions. According to your post, you are still technically a client of theirs.

AARP, in part, has a political agenda. They inform members of state and fed activities that affect seniors. They lobby and petition legislatures and US Congress about senior concerns. That is part of what they do and I like that.
