Said they were the Washignton State Department of Revenue. They left a message after their "business hours" saying that they wanted my name, phone number and IRS business number left on a message for their voicemail.I called them back to give them my name and phone number. No IRS information left with them. Then I checked this website. Why exactly would Department agents call after hours asking for personal information? Especially when I have no information to give them. I blocked the number, called the FBI and will not give these criminals the time of day.
I just got a call tonight from Washington State of Revenue and asking me to call them back on 800-631-4028. Don't know why they call from an unlisted number??
I got a message at 5:29 pm on my voicemail from this number. The recording said to call to update information. I know the WA State DOR is closed at that time. It was a general message and did not indicate the business they were calling about. I am ignoring it.
My bad, i called them back ... i didn't provide any detail... once i got online while i had them on the phone, i hung up ... urgh this stuff is frustrating.
This IS bogus. I just received the call a second time in two weeks. Two weeks ago, my book keeper researched this and found it was bogus. Today, I got the call again and decided what the heck. So I tried calling them, got a human on the phone right away claiming to be with the WA DOR and when I said I needed to google the number first because there have been fraudulent calls he said OK. When I said I wasn't comfortable with the call I asked what he needed from me and he hung up! Now the line is busy when I call back. But this is bogus...why isn't the DOR or state attorney general doing anything about this?
Its not bogus, read the whole post. "DOR agents do contact businesses by phone and leave messages asking taxpayers to contact them at 1-800-631-4028."
l just recieved a phone call today from an unknown phone number. An answer machine with a message regarding taxes.!It said call 1 800 631 4028 weird!
Oh, "Andre"How soon will you be telling us what a big shot you are at the collection agency and how you make six figures? It isn't six figures if there is a decimal point.
Got a call from the Dept of Revenue saying there was an issue with my tax reporting and to call 800-631-4028. It said to visit dor.wa.gov/800 for info. That page says: "Did you get a call from 1-800-631-4028? Washington taxpayers who received a call from the Department of Revenue are wondering if it's for real or some kind of phone scam. Why you received this callWe use an automated dialing system to call business owners who have excise tax returns that are past due. The system leaves a generic message for the business owner so that confidential taxpayer information can't be shared with the wrong person. What should you do if you get a message?Log in to My Account and file the missing excise tax return with payment. If you need assistance or can't pay, call us at 1-800-631-4028. Agents are available from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday.Do Revenue agents sometimes call taxpayers directly?Yes. An agent may leave a message asking you to call back. This type of message is usually more specific, asking for the business owner, corporate officer, or LLC member to return the call at 1-800-631-4028.What should I do if I get a call but do not own a business? Please return our call at 1-800-631-4028 and provide the phone number where the message was left. That way, we can research the issue and correct our records. You can reach the Department of Revenue at 1-800-631-4028."It's legit, guys. Check the DOR's own website. There are a couple other places that reference scam calls and mention that this number is legitimate.
