I just got a call from this number and it is a fraud... Do not give them any information. BEWARE?....
I just got a call from this same number 800-688-7944 stating there is fraud activity on my cc and asked me to provided my credit card number. Luckily I didn't
I got a call from this same number 8006887944 also. They claimed that there was fraud activity on my cc and needed my info to look it up. I had a reference number but they wanted my full cc info. It was too fishy. Lucky I didn't.
I received a voicemail from this number saying it was the Chase fraud department and to return the call. As I was speaking with them, I Googled the number 800-688-7944 and saw these posts. Unfortunately, I had already given them my card number and name as it appears on the card. I immediately hung up and called the number on the back of my card. They confirmed it was a legitimate attempt by the Visa fraud department to contact me and they wanted to verify suspicious activity on my card. It turns out there was fraud activity on my card. So, the number is legit. However, next time, I will return the call only using the number on the back of my card. Just in case.
I too received a call from an AZ number asking me to return the call at this 800 number. Maybe I punched it in incorrectly but I got a disconnected number message. Luckily when I called the Chase number on the back of my card, they did say that the Fraud Dept did want to speak to me.
I called the Chase 1-800-432-3117, which I got off it's secured website, and learned that the 800-688-7944 number is a legitimate number to their Fraud Dept. I never gave out my card number while on the first call (7944), and confirmed the arrangement for a new set of cards to be sent to me on the second call (3117).
THis is a legitimate number. This is the number they want you to call when you make a change to your account. I verified this with Chase. As always though, I would recommend people call back the official number in the back of their card ALWAYS.
This call is legitimate - it is Chase Fraud Prevention for their credit cards. They will call you if there is suspicious activity and you need to call them back in order to get your card turned back on.
Not a scam, my Chase VISA card was denied twice today and when I got home there was a message from Chase asking me to call this number regarding possible fraudulent charges on my card. I called the number and they had a record of the two denied transactions today as well as previous transactions on my card before the fraudulent charge. The fraudulent charge was a purchase in the UK (I'm in the US), which is what alerted them.
