This is an IRS number, BUT I would not trust your caller ID. Either 1) just hang up and call 800-829-0115 so you know you are talking to the IRS. or 2) Answer the call, but without giving any information (they should all ready have it), ask what the call is in reference to, they can't give you much information without verifying who you are, but they should be able to say something like it is in reference to your 2018 income taxes. Then you can hangup and call the real number. Usually the IRS will send a letter, but if you missed it someone, they may try to call, I don't know for sure. Also, for those that had the address change, if you file a return with a different address, they will change it. Or if someone else files a return under your number, either intentionally or by mistake, you will get that letter. So you do need to follow up at 800-829-0115 to see why it was changed. (We had a clerk accidentally enter her City and Zip on a return. We got the address change letter.)
This is an IRS number. It is used for their collections department and maybe other items. It is legitimate. I have heard 801-829-0115 if fake, so only call the 800 number.
NEED TO HAVE A REGULAR NUMBER TO CALL IRS : THIS 800 NUMBER DONT ACCEPT CALL FROM CANADA.
Now this is scarey, I didn't get a phone call, but I received an IRS notice (or so I thought) saying they were changing my address per my request for my business. Well I had never changed my business address, and they had the previous owners name on it (she hasn't been involved since 2010) but, and here's the scarey part, it had my proper business tax ID on it.I went to call the Number and it said there would be a 15-30 minute hold. So I just wasn't feeling comfortable with this, something just didn't feel right, so I called my accountant and she said we had not changed the address. I faxed her a copy over and she said the notice looks very authentic.DO NOT CALL THEM BACK. FROM WHAT I READ THEY WILL ASK FOR ALL KINDS OF INFORMATION AND IT IS STUFF THEY SHOULD ALREADY HAVE ANSWERS TOO!
I received this letter too? And i am confused? Why would they change my address FROM an incorrect address? I am not comfortable calling numbers when I know it doesn't make sense. YOu can't trust anyone out there so I don't trust calling a number just because it "says" it is from the IRS. Not sure what to do.
I received a letter that appears to come from the IRS Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service Ogden Utah 84201-0038. The letter includes my Employer ID. It has the 800-829-0115 phone number; however when you research the number for the Ogen Utah office their numbers all begin with 801. They don’t have a number listed as 801-829-0115. This is a scam intended to obtain information that will lead to the theft of your identity.
