A female left message on machine about a bank money transfer. seems to be a phishing scam. did not call back.

This company called Xoom called our home and asked for my husband. They said a transaction needed to be completed. I don't usually pick up the phone on scammers but did and told her to buzz off. After the call I decided to look up the number on 800 notes and saw the other complaints. It was then I had a bad feeling about my credit card. I was shocked to see that $998 was pending on my card. Of course I immediately contacted my credit card company and told them about the fraud.I have a very good credit rating and standing with my company and of course they took the amount off the card. I did look up xoom and they present themselves as a legitimate company but there are many complaints about them. I'm not sure if the company fraudulently put the amount on my card or someone else lifted my credit card numbers for xoom. BEWARE if you get a call from this company and do not recognize them. If you do check your credit cards to see if you have pending charges that you didn't put on your card.

Fraud alert text from my bank yesterday 17 Nov...6 pending charges from Xoom (which I never heard of) that were not mine. Shortly after the same call in a voice message broken English advising me to call and "verify the money transaction or it would be cancelled in 48 hours". Of course I did not call assuming phishing scam. My bank was able to block 4 of 6 transactions and 2 are still pending. SCAMMERS

have received multiple emails purporting to be from xoom and needing to verify the information before the transaction could be processed. The phone # upon calling goes to voice mail with no name. Upon answering, the person professes to be from Xoom, and wants to make sure the payment to INDIA is not me being scammed. She asks for name, address email, and the substance of the transaction (paying for services-item), and then asks verification of the cell phone number and the name it is under. Says will call back on that # to verify. Then calls back, professing to verify and confirm transaction, and now wants a copy of government id and bank statement. So obviously this is a scam that receives information through Xoom employees or website, therefore making Xoom a useless, unsecure company, who will have your info available to anyone if you use them. Sorry I ever tried them.

Received a call from this number after submitting a transaction request with Xoom. While their approach is a little sketchy, in my case the call was legitimate.

Yeah, seems suspicious as heck, but it might be legit. Called 4 times in 15 minutes (at 2 a.m.!). The number is actually owned by Xoom, which is a legitimate company. They left a message to call back to verify information about a money transfer. After verifying that the number really belonged to Xoom, I called them (on a burner phone) to try and find out what was going on. Obviously, I didn't trust them, but I understand that they don't trust me. After dancing back-and-forth for a while, I decided that I would give them the phone number that they called (since they obviously had that), and my name.It turned out that the name on their records did not match the phone number. Since I got this phone about a year ago, she thought that maybe they were looking for the previous owner of the number. There was no attempt to get any further information from me.I don't blame anyone about being cautious, but in this case, I think it was a real verification attempt.If you get a call like this, be VERY suspicious, Don't share any unnecessary information.
