Since you like using the web so much, why don't you take the proper routes to educate yourself. Surprise you cannot find everything in google. You need to be checking into the actual Customs Rules and regulations for importing an international package. You need to go to www.CBP.gov CBP-Customs Border Protection). You will see no one was trying so scam you, instead you will find that you just got ignorant with someone who was trying to help you get you shipment pre cleared for Customs entry. What joke.
Legit number from UPS requesting information abut inbound international shipments. I get many of these calls and all legit as I am in the import business
I got this call at 5:00 in the morning! No message, and I DONT have a package coming from anywhere.... I'd say its a scam.
I received a call from this number earlier today, but no message left.As regards those messages above which vouch for the number's legitimacy, consider the likelihood that somebody with a neutral experience would ever have any reason to search for a thread for the sake of commenting positively, e.g., "I had such a positive experience, I think I'll search for postings revealing a different experience, and put in a good word for good old 803-502-6700."I suppose that anyone who believes this is likely is an easy mark for a scam as well, perhaps it is a lesson well learned.
I actually work at this particular UPS building. It is NOT a scam. Everyone is not out to try and get you. We do need your social security to enter some shipments into the US. We handle international shipments here. Feel free to look it up on the customs website. You can give your info or choose not to, but you just wont recieve the shipment that was heading to you. Check your facts before you just assume it is a scam. If you werent expecting a shipment then all you had to do was ask the representative for the Shippers info and you could have contacted them for verification. I completely understand being careful before you just hand out your SS# over the phone to a stranger, but at least check things out before you get rude with people and end up just looking ignorant.

First, I NEVER have anything to do with UPS. I sent something down to a friend in the US on Friday(today is Monday) and they arranged pick up. Yes, they sent UPS to pick up the package. This morning I got a call from this number but did not make it to the phone. I checked the tracking of the package and guess what? Its at the UPS Clearing Agency at the same time I recieved the call from this number. So,...is it a legit number from UPS, Ah yea, I think so...:)
It was UPS, who we use all the time, needing some specific information about a part we have coming in to get it cleared through customs. Call was valid, as we have been expecting this particular part to come in this week via UPS. They didn't request any confidential info, SSN, or Tax id numbers - just wanted to know a more specific part description (as our descriptions are pretty vague and usually not enough info for customs).
Scam or no scam? I guess when your package doesn't arrive because it is lacking the proper information to clear through US Customs you'll find out. For packages with a value over $2000.49 a business EIN is needed and if it is going to a person then a SSN is needed. Trust me, if we didn't need this info we wouldn't call. I for one have no idea what I would do with an EIN, but whatever. So the question is give and receive or don't give and not receive, the choice is yours.
