They tried to scam my grandpa through an email from aol telling him that his email was hacked in Nigeria and that he needed to buy a security software so that he would not get scammed. I didn't realize what was being done until he had give then them his credit card information and started scanning our computer, so I cancelled the scanning midway and tried to call apple and the credit card company to get it deleted.
I work on the UofL helpdesk and they told our retiree that they were with AOL, and that they found a virus on his computer. They talked him into letting them remote into his machine, and wanted $199 to "fix" it. He called me before he paid, and I had him turn it off, which set them to calling him constantly. I told him to give them my number as his 'other' phone, and when they called, I explained that he had called us as his tech support, and he now knew they were a scammer, and not to call him again. They said they'd call him all they want and go into his computer the second it was turned back on. He was VERY verbally abusive, insisted I knew nothing about computers, that "you are zero, you are nothing" and so on, and dared me to report him to the FBI for attempted fraud. My user is taking his computer to Geek Squad to get their remote software cleaned off of it, and I told him to reset all his passwords asap, and not to turn it back on till they clean it. What kind of filth preys on old people... it's disgusting.

Said they where with Telus and that someone in Baltimore hacked my ip address, wanted us to pay upfront 170- 180 for fixing the problem.
I almost got scammed! They were connected to my Garmin supposedly support...when they wanted money I called my local Best Buy and they said disconnect and bring your PC in. I did. LOL. Best Buy helped me update my Garmin and told me that it wasn’t corrupted as the scammers had said.
