it is a company that works to verify orders for various merchants. I just received a call, all they asked for was my birthday and to confirm I made a large purchase at Kay Jewelers. Real people.

Thank you John. My experience was very similar. I was very happy that I called them back. The woman did not ask me to verify the last 4 digits of the credit card, however she say them as a reference for me.

Fraudulent

TL;dr: LegitimateWhen I received this call, it was on behalf of iRobot. I did give them a hard time about validating my information, after which I called the iRobot customer service number. They confirmed the call was from their order verification department, and that it was because there were reports of fraud from within my complex, so they needed to confirm that the order was legitimately placed. I did suggest that they pass on a message to their order verification department to do a better job of identifying themselves or whom they are calling on behalf of in the future. (as an aside, their customer service was nothing but pleasant and receptive when I called, so this episode didn't tarnish my impression of the company)

Does appear to be legit. They called to verify a large weekend purchase against my debit card, to buy a gift card (Toys/Babies Are Us). Since these are often used in fraudulent transactions, I think it was a reasonable precaution.
