Ok one thing: this is legit .. it's so you can get calls from inmates. My girlfriend is in jail and ever time I see the number on my caller ID i know it's her calling. 2) it's a racket because they charge through the nose so you can receive calls. Nonetheless, if you get a call from this number it very well may be a loved one or a friend reaching out from behind bars. For what it's worth.

I have a friend who is serving 25 years with the feds. After serving 15 years of his sentence he was transferred to a private prison in Taft, California. He calls me weekly from Taft and for the last 5 months every call comes through on my Caller ID as 866-718-4777. They use a very different system for phone calls and I know for a fact that some jails in Florida use this same system. Wish I could help more but that is all I can say with any certainty. Got a call from this number at 1:56 a.m., just showed up on my caller id, cause I slept right through it!

I have been getting these calls for days on end..I finally pressed the option to find out how much it was...the caller had hung up..I dont know anyone who is in jail

This is a detention center line. With regards to charges, it all depends on the specific facility, as some actually have a prepaid system where the inmate or their family puts money into an account. IF it's the prepaid system that the facility has, a message asking for you to accept charges might still pop up but you will NOT be charged.

I noticed other commenters say it is this facility or that facility. It is a toll-free line used by multiple facilities. Not a scam unless the inmate calling is trying to scam you.
