Seriously, you guys are too paranoid. You sound a bit like my mother. Chill out. Obviously, if you have your purse stolen and then a bunch of applications are made in your name, something fishy is going on. However, if you apply for a Chase card and then you get contacted by Chase with a request for further information, it's almost certainly kosher. I applied online for a card recently and got a letter in the mail soon after asking for some proof of my physical address. It had this number printed on it, so I called with a question regarding acceptable forms of identification that I could send them. The guy on the phone wanted my address and SSN, which spooked me a bit. However, I later called the number provided on the Chase website for fraud reports. After a bunch of call transfers, I wound up talking to the people at the same number printed on the letter. They said that both the letter and the number on it were not part of any scam. In fact, they were aware of the call I made earlier in the day when I called with my original question. So unless bad guys have taken control of the Chase website, set up an elaborate phone system, and mailed out illegitimate letters to everybody in a coordinated plot to screw you over, there is nothing to worry about.
Though did not get any calls, requested birth certificate and SSN copy as part of credit card application with Chase (which was never originated).
To add to the above details, the "Chase" application came in snail mail and suggested calling this number for any queries.
I also just got a letter for the same info with the same phone number to call and for the same information. I already have a chase card so I knew it was fraud. When I called Chase they said they had me listed for filing out an application on July 25 which I did not do. Be carful!
i applied for a card through my work and recieved a letter in the mail that asked me to send a copy of my ss# as verification of my identity. This seems really bogus to me. I called the 1-877-470-9042 number and got a person on the phone directly. No prompts, nothing..just that the call would be recorded. This seems like a scam to me..i am now on hold and have been for the last 2 minutes...the guy is telling me that they need a copy of a SS# for each applicaiton..this seems a little bogus to me.....you let me know...
i applied for a chase credit card, just recieved a letter saying they needed a copy of my social security card. i called the number that the letter provdided, 1-877-470-9042. the woman said that because i have no established credit that they would need a copy of it to ensure that i am who i say i am. she said if i didn't feel comfortable mailing it i could fax it thru a local chase bank. i dunno, what should i do? she had all of my information for security purposes and asked me to verify it.
After I applied for a chase mastercard on line, a guy called me for asking my address in order to send me a letter from chase company. In the letter, they ask me to submit my copy of SSN and others. 877-470-9042 is the number showed in the letter. I feel very uncomfortable about this kind of application if it is not a fraud. So I prefer to wait for the result about the application without submitting my SSN. Maybe the better way to avoid fraud is to apply another company's credit card.
I just got the letter in the mail, asking me to send a copy of SSN and a copy of a utility bill. The phone # is 8774709042 (same) and also I looked up the return address and Google doesn't know about it: P.O. Box 15077Wilmington, DE, 19886This keeps looking more and more like fraud. It seems like I'll apply somewhere else.
After having applied to Chase online I got a letter from the same address (P.O. Box 15077 Wilmington, DE, 19886) and a same phone number (8774709042) with a request to send copy of SSN, proof of current address and date of birth (even though my dob was indicated in the application!). I called back to the Personal Accounts Phone shown on the Chase web-site (800-432-3117) and one of their representatives (Rowe) immediately said that the letter was from them (I only began saying that I got a strange letter) and they need it for security purposes so that nobody else can open a card at my name. She also said (after my question) that the chances are pretty high for approval. Everything looks so strange, but I called the number from the web-site, NOT the one in the letter. So maybe it will be fine.. Anyway, very strange.
I applied for a Chase card online. The next day I received a phone call from someone with the Chase Fraud Department wanting to verify information. I refused to do so. Now today I received a letter from "Chase" that says they need me to send something that verifies my date of birth to the address mentioned above and they also list the above mentioned phone number to call for questions. I've been online looking at the official Chase page for credit cards and while the addresses and phone numbers are similar I have yet to find one that matches. I'm pretty dang sure this is a scam!!
