I called SSA 1-800-772-1213. And they confirmed that 1-877-772-3794, ext. 31351 does belong to their employee M. Van Hook. I received an email that did not look professional. Always verify SSA numbers with SSA's main number.

Martha Noras left message claiming she was a claims benefit agent for the SSA in richmond ca and to call back at 18777723794. Called the number immediately and only got her voice mail saying to leave my ss number...butshist on that because I know that NO gov agency asks for your ss number over the phone! Contacted the SSA in Richmond Ca but it's saterday and their message states they are not open for business on the weekend... gee ya think Martha Noras!
Female caller identified herself from Social Security Administration. She left a voicemail message requesting a call back at 877-772-3794 Ext. 32587. Social Security is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. D-U-H!
A call came through from 510-970-1100. A voicemail message requested a call back to 877-772-3794 Ext. 32587. I called a branch of the Social Security Administration and was able to verify that the 877 number referenced above is legitimate.
Was asked to call this number and an extension in an email from ssa.gov after applying for SSD so this number is indeed legitimate.
This is a scam by identity thieves to try to obtain social security numbers. Do NOT call back.
877-772-3794 is not a scam. I am employed by SSA and that is the toll free number to the internet unit that processes all of California's Social Security internet applications.
If this is truly a valid number, tell us the street address of your office so that we can DRIVE in to see you. Enough with phone numbers.
This broad call us on this number on sat. and said she was from SSA my wife spoke to her and gave no info. This [***] called back on Monday and I took a message and turned in the information.
