Mail from COX Cable Co, asking if I had made a security change in my service, asking me to call this number if I had not.
888-780-5863 - I got an email (Is it really from Cox or somebody is phishing):PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL AS IT IS AUTOMATICALLY GENERATED 03-16-2008 Dear valued Cox customer: A change has been made to the security measures of your Cox Communications accountand we want to make sure you are aware of it. If you did not make this change, please give us a call immediately at 888-780-5863.If this change is correct, please retain this correspondence for your records. Thank you,Cox Communications
I received a letter similar to the email in the other post, indicating that a change had been made to the security measures on my account and to call 1-(888)780-5863.I called my local cox customer care number to verify the authenticity of the letter. It was fine.
I just received this letter in the mail, same wording, same phone number. Thought it was fraudulent and called Cox. They confirmed that it is authentic. I had added a password to my pin number in case I ever forget the pin, and the letter confirmed that change had been made.
I got a letter from Cox saying my billing address had changed and to call this number if that was not correct. I had added phone service recently but NO change in address. It took two phone calls starting with numbers on my bill but this is a Cox number.
I've been a Cox customer for a while, and I know I have NOT made any recent changes to my account. I received the e-mail below on June 22, 2009, and I called the Cox customer service number on my bill (not the one provided in the e-mail). They indeed confirmed to me that I have not made any recent changes to my account. Please notice that the e-mail has too many typos and does not greet the customer by their real name, which right away indicates that this is false (it does not come from Cox). Here is the e-mail:PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL AS IT IS AUTOMATICALLY GENERATED 06-23-2009 Dear valued Cox customer: A change has been made to the security measures of your Cox Communications accountand we want to make sure you are aware of it. Thank you,Cox CommunicationsI decided out of curiosity to call from a payphone the 888 number provided, and a female recorded voice comes up. It does sound like it's truly from Cox, but I decided not to take any chances and just hung up right away.
I received an email like the one above. I called Cox directly & they said this is NOT from them. Do not call the phone # listed in the email. Forward the email to Cox.
I got a letter and it said the same as the above chats. I am a new customer to Cox and have had to communications with them by phone, email, or by mail. When I received this letter, I went online chat with Cox and they told me to ignore the letter. A verification of the address on the letter shows it to be Cox and the local phone number answers as Cox but I am very leary of the letter.
I rec'd a letter stating the same thing as above. I hadn't made any changes to my cox account and what struck me as scammy was the fact that I saw this same letter in other people's mail (where they put unwanted "junk" mail). So this tells me this was sent out en masse and not truly from Cox cable. I'm not sure I would count on the customer service reps at Cox to really know about this number being real or not. It's just a call center.
I received a letter similar to the email in the other post, indicating that a change had been made to the security measures on my account and to call 1-(888)780-5863. I called my local Cox phone number and I was informed this DID NOT come from them, this is NOT their phone number, and that this IS a phishing scam and to NOT call it.
