She called, then sent a packet with questions. I mailed the completed questionaire to the address. She called today (don't remember her name) and said that I was not supposed to send the form back. I was supposed to answer the questions, then keep it handy until she calls again. She said she will call back tomorrow. We think it is suspicious. She wants to know our gross sales etc. Says she will be calling every week. I think the US Department of Labor would do this via a written questionaire, not through a phone call. We think we may refuse until we have verification that it is, indeed, who they say they are.
Caller claims to be from the U.S. Dept. of Labor, and the Caller ID shows up as "US GOVT," which all just seems a little too contrived. We get these calls all the time at our office. Because we are listed with the California Secretary of State as the "agent for service of process" for the numerous companies we form for clients, they look us up and ask for the name of the person in the company who they should send their forms to. I generally just decline on the basis of client privacy. The caller is always polite and friendly, and I haven't quite been able to figure out what they're angle might be if it is a scam. One of these days I should just have them send one of these packets to me so I can see if it is legit...
This is a legitimate number for the USDOL. Collecting data on payroll for certain date ranges, number of employees, how many are women. Not a hoax. Ann calls us once a month for data. She sends out a postcard to let you know when she will be calling the next month.
Got a post card in my in box at work yesterday from US Dept of Labor/Bureau of Labor Stats. Was gone from work so don't know ex at date it came. Claimed a scheduled phone call. Also said leave info with co-worker if not available. Card said they wanted employment and payroll data. 'SCAM' right there. Worse they did not even use my 'given name' but known nickname of that. Nothing with the government has me by a nickname.BEWARE!!!
The call is from Department of Labor-Bureau of Labor Statistics and is legitimate. Have a great weekend all!
Wanted to send a package to our payroll dept and needed a specific name. Would not tell me what they were sending or what they were looking for. Very persistent about payroll person's name.Threatened to call the Secretary of State for the owner of the company's name.
US Govt called and insisted on the owners name. As a secretary I don't usually give that information to random callers, but since it said US GOVT I did. She sent a packet asking very personal info about our company and employees. Not getting past this secretary, going to straight to the shredder. She called back asking to get the answers, I told her it was not mandatory in Kansas to fill out the info, and we chose to opt out. She said our business was chosen to answer the questions. I told her to put our number on the DNC list but the calls keep coming. Damn telemarketers and the DNC list is a joke!
Caller ID can be easily faked. NEVER give out personal information on a call you did not make. Always verify a number first.
These are not telemarketers and the federal government is allowed to contact you to request this type of information. As a secretary, maybe you should have given the packet to your boss instead of making the decision yourself that it wasn't anything that needed to be done. The data they are requesting is used to report national employment statistics. Maybe not important to you, but it is important.
Attention AM - If you received the amount of scam calls that I have to answer everyday you would be suspicious too. We have a business to operate and if I allowed every scam call to get through to my boss it would be a total waste of his time. Now if we were all on welfare and going to Disneyland for Christmas I guess we wouldn't have to worry about these calls now would we?
