I received a message, purportedly from the Social Security Administration, telling me to call the SSA at this number immediately to resolve some unstated issue, leading me to believe it's a scam. My advice is to ignore calls from this number, and certainly not to respond by calling them back.

This is a SCAM-Goes to voice mail and asks you to leave your SSN. The social security admin will never ask you to leave your SSN on a voice mail. Letter looks very official, but it's not.
