it was a call from michigan... they claimed that something was wrong with my credit card, and for me to stay on the line to have the problem resolved... must be a scam because they never identified which "company" they were from... and I have no credit cards... do not bother answering them
People get a hold of old, unused numbers and then spoof their caller ID to look like they are calling from that number. When you call back, you get the out-of-service message because that number IS out-of-service; they called you from a real number, but made their caller ID reflect a different number; very easy to do with VoIP phones nowadays. You can find out which company owns the number, but complaining to them doesn't do anything, since they see the number as disconnected and will not see a call from that number in their network. The best way to combat this is to contact YOUR phone provider and report the call; they will be able to check who passed the call to them. Typically calls jump between many carriers before reaching the caller, so your company can find only one piece of the puzzle, and their job is to have the carrier that sent the number to them check to see the provider that sent the call to them, and that provider will have to check with who sent the call to them, etc., etc. Usually, the different carriers do not work much together on this since you are not their customer. In the end, someone drops the ball and you never find out where the call originated.
Just got a call from this number; caller ID states Michigan; left no VM; called back, number was no in service; as per previous posters, I blocked the number on my cellphone.

Robo-dialer caller. DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION. DO NOT ANSWER or your phone number will be called again and again. They use several different caller-id numbers similar to 636-235-xxxx. NEVER USE THE WORD "Yes" when a robo-dialer calls you.
