I answered a call from 1-403-674-2323, and a recorded message said to press 1 to claim a 100 000 air miles reward prize. I pressed 1 and the phone hung up. I called the number right back, but it was out of service. I understand that this was fake, but does anyone know why? What did they gain from this?
Looks to be a common issue with the cell phone numbers being made public. I just got a call on my work cell phone (which is unlisted) from this number. I noticed the 403 area code which is Alberta and knowing that no one from Alberta would be calling my work cell I did not answer. Same advice as some of the others above - if you do speak to a live agent ask them to confirm where they are calling from and to add you to their "Do not call" list. Then ask them for a confirmation number or the number where you can speak to their privacy office. Worst case scenario if the calls become repetitive and frustrating contact your phone provider and ask them to either block the number due to harassment or ask if they can trace the number.
Automated caller said I had won 100,000 Air Miles and push one. Didn't. Just hung up, this is the second call from these scammers in one week. The week before I had supposedly won a trip to some island down south. Same number as last week 403-674-2323. I should buy a lotto ticket, they say things come in threes.
So I chatted with these people a bit. The phone call started with you won 1 000 000 airmiles, so I was curious. Went to an operator who told me he was from some business (not airmiles) and that I had won a vacation package for these resorts in mexico. I was bored, so I decided to chat with him a bit. The first two questions were, was I at least 25 (I turn 25 next week lol) and did I hold a valid credit card (red flag).I then got passed to someone else. I let him explain the package (2 vacations, to be used any time in the next 2.5 years, one for a resort in cancun, one for orlando) at a very low price ($698, not including airfare, hotel tax, or a one time registration fee of $60). I told him I don't give my credit card out over the phone, and I have been a student for the last 6 years, so I am not going to pay $700 at the drop of a hat. Sooo then I got passed to his "manager". He first confirmed that his agent had been polite - absolutely he had. He then explained that they have a deal for seniors and students. $300ish dollars for the same 2 vacations. I asked if I had to pay today. He said yes, this deal is for today only. I said I wasn't going to pay today, as a student, I just can't afford that. So he tried one last deal, pay $100 today and then pay off the rest in monthly installments. I reiterated that I wasn't going to pay today, but I would check out the website he gave me www.cancuncalling.com. Oh, when I talked about not giving my card # out over the phone, he went on a big schpiel about how I can call my credit card company right away and confirm their companies validity. Still would have had to give them my # first. Anyway, in case any of you were interested in what would happen if you continued the phone call, I thought I would let you know :) Cheers,Kate
"Dear preferred customer" - I'd won 100,000 Air Miles - press 1 to confirmSPAM SPAM....
Yep, I am also a victim of this bizarre call from 403-674-2323, who I do not know nothing about, and I am happy I was not fast enough to take the call. The call was done on my cell phone in Montréal area.I am always surprised to get calls from someone I do not know, since my cell phone is blocked for display on other's phone. They did not let any message... this is saying a lot...
I just received this call, and I'm privately listed. How the heck do they get this information. Isn't is sad that in this day and age we have all become so untrustworthy - we have to be it seems. If we ever did win something, how would we know for sure it wasn't a scam? Sad!
Just received this call as well - only answered because one of my Brownie parents is from Alberta. Claimed that I won some obscene number of Air Miles and I hung up.
I just received a call from this number on my cell phone and it left a voice mail message asking me 'to accept the long distance charges press1.' We have been getting the Air-Mile winner calls at work as well.SUPER ANNOYING!!!!!!
Just received a call from this same number. Said that I've won 100 000 air miles and to press 1. I pressed 1 and then spoke to someone for about 15 minutes about winning 2 vacations. One to Cancun and one to Orlando Florida. Vacations totalled $3298 but I would get them at a reduced discount of only $698. All I had to do was leave my credit card number. Refused to leave my credit card number and was put through to someone else who tried to get my number as well. Hung up....don't answer any calls from this number.Alerted my cell phone provider of this issue.
