I got a call from this number 30 minutes ago on my cell. I did not recognize the number so I hit ignore. I am in Vancouver.

Wow, i just googled that phone number and came across this webpage with very recent posts.7:44pm here in ontario, just got it a minute ago. Same message as everyone else. I hung up..duh.

I got this number 5 mins ago. I press 1 to just see, and the first thing they asked me was that I had to be at least 25 to be able to collect the winnings of $3000 in travel dollars. I lied and said I was 20, and they just hung up. Obvs a scam, I laughed it off, because I've never enter in any contest for travel money.

Huh. Glad I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. If it's important, they'll typically leave a message. If they don't, it's obviously not important.On the subject of how they get your, or my, phone numbers even if they're unlisted.The easiest (but most time consuming) is to use an auto-dialer and just roll through numbers until someone answers, which is probably why many of them have recorded messages. When you "press 1", you're basically telling an automated system to hang on to your phone number. Then, a live con artist can call you and attempt to pull your info through your mouth the way "Don't Owe" (above) described. Even if it's long distance, most companies these days don't charge if the call receiver doesn't answer (possibly within a certain time frame, like 10 seconds).I seem to recall something about a phone list controversy with the last few years. The major phone providers started a service that was supposed to prevent telemarketers from calling anyone that wanted them not to. With me so far? If you wanted this feature, your number would go on a certain list. I'm not sure how it was supposed to work, but those lists actually seemed to increase the number of telemarketing calls people received. According to the news anyway. It seems to me a small step for con artists to get there hands on something like that if it exists where you are. "Do not call" just screams "Call me" kinda like "No Solicitors" signs attract salesmen (provided you don't have security guards or such).Now, I normally don't do free plugs, especially when what I'm plugging for isn't mine. There's a book called "The Art of Deception" by Kevin Mitnick. It shows how he used social engineering to gain access to high security and sensitive systems. The idea behind the book is to prepare people to be able to deal with that kind of attack (such as these phone con artists). Might help you (being anyone reading this) or the people around you to be prepared for such things.

Just got the call from 1-4502009898 number. i didn't even picked up. i just ignored it. And just by curiosity, i searched google with this number and this website came out! lol. good thing i didn't even pick up.

Nice. I just got a call from this number. It's a number from Quebec, I don't know anybody in Quebec, so I didn't pick up. Googled the number and lookie what I found! This! Nice! Thank goodness for Google.

Me too... I got the call like 4 hours ago. I have family in Quebec so I searched it to find out who. Weird. I feel better though. =P

received a call today,I didn't answer,caller id says out of the area,I never answer those calls,I know that they are scammers.

same number called me 450-200-9898:This could be the type of scam where if you say yes or press #1 on your key pad...The scammers start billing your number at a expensive rate similar rates for adult chat lines..Called back the number and 'its out of service'That should tell you right there.Will report them to the police and phone company.
