This is definitely a scam! Don’t go on the site or call them. We have a dog (who is here with me) who is NOT chipped because we live outside of city limits, so there should be no info or registry for my dog!
This is not a scam. Most pets adopted from shelters and rescues are automatically chipped without us even realizing it. I didn't think my pet was chipped but I got one of these texts and it was totally legit. I guess the shelter did it for me and I never knew it. When I emailed they told me it was a national registry, so it doesn't matter if you're outside city limits. Just picked up my dog from the nice lady who found her! Never letting my neighbor pet-sit again.
Genuine question - How else would you suggest getting notified if someone finds a lost pet who may not have any collar or tag with the owner's info?
Thanks for your answer! I guess I just think you should do more research before you say it's a scam, since it sounds like you don't really understand how pet microchips work. Sara was totally right - most shelters automatically chip your pet and register it without you even knowing or taking any action yourself. I've been on the site and I actually asked a friend who works at a shelter and is very familiar with this company - this is exactly how microchips work. There are sites that will tell you which chip is registered and where, and how to contact them. So basically what you're saying is a scam is how the entire pet microchip industry works - which is not to say that it's perfect or without issues. I totally get where you're coming from and am not trying to start an argument, which is why I asked for your opinion on how else it should work. I get that this is a site to report phishing calls, but I'd hate for someone to see this and miss out on reuniting with their lost pet.
That's not true at all. I didn't register my dog - the shelter sent it in for me. Not all companies work the same way.
