Received a call like 30 minutes ago. I didn't answer since I don't know this number. Did not leave a voicemail. If it's important, one would always leave a voicemail. With all the fraud calls out there, it's best not to answer calls from "unknown number".
these people are selling medicare plans, problem is I am not old enough for medicare supplimental palns. I called back after they hung up on me. Losers!
Automated message stating you are eligible for 0% on all of your Visa credit cards. Option to accept. No option to opt out. I left the call hanging until their system finally disconnected after 6 minutes. At least that left their line busy for a while lol
Called at 7:30 in the morning. No message left. This is out of control with these scammers calling all hours. Holidays, Sunday, late at night. Early in the morning.
Apparently you don't fully understand the intent or the functioning of the DNC lists. They were established in order that LEGAL, LAW ABIDING companies be required to register with the state in which they intend to make telemarketing calls, and PURCHASE the list containing all the phone numbers belonging to people who have made it known by registering them, that they do not wish to be disturbed by such calls. Then, they must purge their own lists of every number they have which also appear on the DNC list before they make that first phone call. I can't imagine there would actually be too many numbers left to call once that's done, given the popularity of the list!BUT - there are several concepts there which do not apply in the case of the types of calls we have been getting or are here to address. The first being "LEGAL, LAW ABIDING COMPANIES" of which this scum obviously are not. They are neither legal, nor are they law abiding, obviously, and therefore cannot be bothered to follow any law that doesn't suit their purposes, which are primarily to separate their victims from as much money as they possibly can. Frequently they are not based in this country, and don't give a hoot about our laws, or anyone else's for that matter.Another is the requirement that they register with each state and actually pay money out to purchase a list of people who don't want to be bothered. They couldn't possibly be less interested in either concept. And they surely have no interest in not bothering anyone - that's their primary goal - to get to as many people as possible, as rapidly as possible, and scam as many of THEM as they possibly can. There are other things which apply here, which have not yet been mentioned. First, the number that shows up on your caller ID is NEVER the number from which these calls originate. They have been what's commonly known as "spoofed" using numbers that are out of service (not currently in use or active) and a simple computer program which replaces the actual number making the calls with the faked number you see on your ID screen. Happens every day, and has been for ages.Another is the use of sequential autodialing, where the computer, not people's actual fingers, are dialing out hundreds of numbers, in numerical sequence, at the same time, and the ones who were "lucky enough" to answer first automatically took the attentions of the people sitting there waiting for someone to answer the phone, OR got the roboanswer that started the automatic spiel you hear, in the form of a "Hi! This is Rachel/Susie/George/Raul etc., And YOU have been selected to.......blah blah blah...etc." Since there are only a limited number of actual individuals to whom you could potentially be transferred, anyone late on the answering queue gets silence, or an "I answered but nobody was there" response. What the DNC is NOT is an automatic unwanted call blocker. It does not keep you from receiving calls that originate from anyone who actually dialed your number, which also explains why you get "wrong number" calls, when someone accidentally misdialed your number, instead of the one they really wanted which happens to be one digit off of yours (I've lived here 25 years and still occasionally get calls intended for the Middle School down the street from me, because instead of 3121, somebody dials 3221 as the last four digits!) They didn't intend to call you, and there's certainly no reason that you should need to speak to them. But the call gets through anyway. The DNC list won't stop those anymore than it will stop the criminals who dialed your number on purpose. So, keep the DNC list updated to any phone number changes you may experience, know that it will function as intended as long as everyone follows the rules, but also know that it has absolutely no effect on anyone who doesn't choose to abide by the laws.It can also provide for a reporting system, through the State Attorney General's office in my state for instance, which you must actively make function by providing it all the information about these calls as you can, and they have resulted in some pretty significant arrests and prosecutions, when the recipients of these calls cooperate with the system. But the system itself doesn't function alone. And it can't always track down the offenders, in these days of cheap or even free sophisticated technology behind which they can hide. But it does work as well as we can make it work.
