A lady with a heavy oriental accent said they were receiving notifications from my computer and that my computer was not responding to Microsoft security updates. Hung up on her and blocked the tn.
But he's not from India. While not angels, Indians are getting a bum rap from calls emanating from Pakistan which is the only country from where these "Microsoft", "Duct Cleaning", "pharmacy", etc. etc. callers are residing. Being a larger country in the that neighborhood, Pakistanis are happy to kill two birds with one stone: 1. Commit their scam, and 2. Have it blamed on the country they hate: India.This was verified by an investigation carried out a while back where these calls were actually traced right back to Karachi who are working in conjunction with scammers residing in North America.
Wrong country, try Pakistan. Big difference between the two when it comes to international hoodwinking and terrorism.
I just got a call from this number. I knew immediately it was a scam but tried to keep them on the line. The woman (who said she was from Calcutta, and she definitely had a heavy Indian accent) said they were an independent company that was checking for viruses on Microsoft computers. Mine is one of 29 (yeah, right!) identified as having "various viruses and malware" affecting it and they would like to assist me in removing it. She wanted me to go into my computer and give her some information (uh... I don't think so!) After a couple more questions from me we were disconnected.
My understanding is that Jack Bauer from CTU is currently tracking these terrorists and is close to making an arrest.
This area in New York must be a hotbed of scam activity either by spoofing, etc. Over the past 3 years I have got calls from 516-453-XXXX ( at least 8 different numbers with the 516-453 beginning ) ranging from computer scams, fire alarm scam, IRS scams, credit card scam, walmart gift card scams, DirectTV scam and on and on and on.
