received a call last night from this number, terrible broken english, probably chinese descent. I have a VRBO rental property, she said she was trying to contact me via email so I gave her my email address (it took a good 5 minutes for her to get it right) and this morning I received a bizarre guestbook comment for android tablets out of china, definitely a scam, block the number.
Missed a call from this number. If I call back number it comes in as a Verizon disconnected number. If I text the number is comes back as a Land Line not accepting texts. I have a vacation rental listed at the three major sites.
I too just received a call - it's a scam! this person was saying it was for their mother who sent an email, but it didn't go through. so I gave him my email, but then realized something was wrong when he replied, to my question about if his mother spoke english, "I don't know, she only speaks to me in chinese".. Wrong answer, scammer!so I corrected my email over the phone to a wrong one.beware!John
I too have a VRBO property and received the same phone call asking if I spoke Chinese. Said his mother contacted me and I didn't respond but that they wanted to vacation in "(the state my property is listed)". He asked for my email address. I told him I didn't believe I received an email. I did not give out my email (since I figure they had it already) and it felt like a scam. I asked for a number I could contact him at and told him I would look into it. Who knows - maybe a family from China might like to vacation near the coast in the US ... ? right....
I got this call twice. Same crap. Asked him for his email address and he said he did not have one.
This scam has been a hot topic on the Vacation Rental chat boards recently. Everyone states the same scenario each time. Starts with "Do you speak Chinese?" Then, about her father/mother who does not speak English, wants to rent, then she asks for your email address. This is definitely a scam.
I also received 2 calls from this number. I have condos in Maui that are in VRBO and they said the same thing to me that is mentioned in the previous posts.
Same story as above. Received a call today, she asked if I spoke Chinese, Said she was trying to make vacation accomodations for her mother. I told her why don't I take your email address (Since mine is rather long anyway) and she said she didn't know her mother's email. She got the email address all wrong when I told it to her so I just let it be. Didn't receive anything but she is for sure a scam.
