that happend to me as well with safari, I called the number and ask if they were working with apple and they did not give me a straight answer I hope they didnt get also information from my computer and I wonder how can they do this through safari?
I got the same error.i called the number they asked me to share my screen with them.i am so happy i didnt do that. They were trying to access my computer.
We received the same message tonight and forced the quit. Any suggestions on how to ensure computer is okay?
Same pop while using Safari as above. After Googling the number and reading other reported incidents I did a force quit. Thank you previous posters for sharing what's going on and saving me from calling.
Same message as everyone else. I did a force quit and did not call the number. Thank you all for sharing!
I did not receive a call from this number, however, when I opened Safari and tried to enter an address to search, a window immediately opened withe a message telling me that there was possible spyware in place and that I needed to call them before attempting to purchase anything online. The laptop then started "speaking to me" advising me to call this number immediately. Stupidly, I did call but was smart enough to realize they were not going to help me unless I let them get on my computer. I forced Safari closed and the message quit and the windows were back to normal. Do not call them!
Same as everyone else, but my safari is compromised. I've forced a quit 3x now and restarted my computer and still, I get the pop up message that paralyzes my internet.
Thanks so much for your suggestions. I think I'm going to have to find someone who knows a lot more than I do. They got me good. I can't access Safari at all, except to have the popup block whatever I do- I can't open other windows, can't download or search for anything, all my controls are greyed out, I can't even update my mac keeper. Even this message is posting from my iPad...
You may - MAY - have one other option. Disconnect from the Internet:After force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi in the upper right of OS X's menu bar or disconnect the Ethernet cable, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one. After than make SURE! you clean out your cache.
