Right after I register my # on the DNC list, this # has called twice every day! Even after I auto-text respond "Wrong #, please stop calling"
I keep getting calls from this number. I don't speak Spanish and I'm on the do not call registry.
I called the number back when they realize you speak English they say oh Wrong number and Leo hanging up on me. I have called them back five times and they won't tell me who they are and just hang up on me
I wish I had a dollar for every post on this site where someone states "No one knows my number", "I have not given my number to anybody else" or any other phrasing of the same claim. I does not matter if you have not given "your" number to anyone else, odd are the previous subscriber to "your" number gave it out to a myriad of other people and companies. Very few of the numbers in service were "new" when they were issued to their current subscribers; phone numbers are recycled. Even if you were one of the rare cases where a number "fresh out of the box" was issued to you, it does not mean someone or something (mare then likely) will not dial your phone. Telemarketers (legitimate and otherwise) and scammers use automatic dialing equipment/software to go through every number in a range (like an entire area code) one after another. Odds are your number was somewhere in the range of numbers 661-462-7983's dialing system targeted for today. And odds are that tomorrow or another day in the very near future an auto dialer for another number will call your number because it was in their daily target range. What can you do? 1. Register on the Do Not Call Registry, which will stop most of the legitimate telemarketers (there are exemptions, read about them when you sign up). However, it will not stop calls from illegitimate telemarketers (those that ignore the DNCR laws) and outright scammers which brings us to the next item. 2. Get a blocking app for you cell phone, many are free. If you have one of those rare "dumb" phones, create an "Ignore" contact (or any other name that pleases you), add the number that called and assign a silent ring. (They may call again, but you will not hear it.) 3. Do NOT answer calls from numbers you do not know. That only confirms for them that there is a live person attached to that number. 4. Be very prudent about who you give your number to (it sounds like you may be already.) Many businesses view phone numbers and the information associated with them as a valuable commodity that can be bought and sold. Even friends and family may pass your number to others, once they have it.
