You have to report them for violations of the do not call list. The government has no way of knowing otherwise. Go to www.donotcall.gov and click on file a complaint. It costs them $5000 for each complaint filed.
I'm interested to hear you all talking about this # being a carpet cleaning service. I've just restored my dad's computer for the 4th time in 2 weeks. The first time after worries about junk coming in from facebook bingo games and such. At one point he had 7-8 toolbars taking up nearly half his screen. After the first restore he was resetting his passwords per my suggestion. Please note the machine was factory spec, I had done all the windows svc packs, upgrades for both windows and Norton's antivirus. When he went to his email to get his email reset link he got a popup giving him 1-800-704-8416 for further assistance. He called and allowed them to tunnel into his pc. After that, I couldn't update, uninstall, reinstall Norton's or run WIndows updates.Restored again, (this is time consuming getting up to snuff on a 7 year old pc)Still acted funky, did a full format of the harddrive and again restored the pc.Did updatesThe computer wouldn't come up at all the next day, hung up on HP login. Tried safemode etc. Nada...So yesterday, I again reformatted the harddrive, reinstalled software, ran all the updates on windows and Nortons. Was assured by Nortons that this could only be affecting his machine, not the rest of the familie's home networked with his.Had to reset his password for our ISP and his email. It wasn't working so he called our provider, Century Link. They helped reset his account, change password, etc.A few minutes later he got a phone call from 801-671-9123 the person said that they'd heard he was having problems with his email password. Dad assumed it was Century Link calling back, otherwise how would anyone know that? Dad allowed them to tunnel into his computer. They offered to clean his freshly cleaned and updated computer. He asked sarcastically if they wanted 200.00 per the prior company. "Why no!!! They would fix his perfectly clean updated computer for a mere 149.50. That's when my mom walked in and got a bit loud and asked who and what this company was. She also said (again loudly) that we'd probably have to make another report to the FBI (they're the people who track this sort of thing)So there ya have it. I have no idea what they did to his pc. I did call Norton's, got the tech supervisor on and he installed the newest bestest Norton's software with all updates. Checked and saId the machine was clean. But who knows? Once one computer in a network is compromised whoever has access to all other machines in that network. Just a further note, When I pressed my caller ID on the phone no number came up. I finally hit *69 and got this number as the only phone calling in this morning. When I call this # I get a recording that says it's the opt out service to avoid Solicitation calls. They ask you to give the # (you just called) and then your phone number. They seem to be located in North Dakota. The other company according to Google is E-Fix. There are numerous posted complaints about them soliciting elderly people (like my dad) and requesting 200.00 to clean and repair your computer after they've tried to reset a password (email seems a favorite)
call from automated Diane. then got live person. they called me a [***] and hung up on me after i said i am on a do not call list.
We asked this person (Diane) why they keep calling us (7th time this week) since they are out of state and couldn't possible clean our carpets. Her reply was that they are an internet company that sub-contracts the work to local (illegal Mexicans) in our area that will do the actual work.
March 13 2013 - Caller ID says "CLEANING SERVIC." I am on the Do Not Call list, and have reported them to the FCC. Lot of good that will do.
Me too, Diane from Carpet Care, they say they are local in my town but they're lying. If you wait for a person they hang up before you can tell them to stop
Never allow ANYONE to tunnel into your computer! There is also a scam service out there that claims to be "cleaning up" your PC. They take control of your PC while they have you on the phone, claim to be removing viruses, but in reality they are INFECTING your machine. If you suspect that this is happening to you, shut your machine down FAST before they do too much damage.
I get all the calls too.I have resorted to answering, and making the appointment... yes, a real person, actually sounded startled that i was talking nicely to her.... I made an appointment for chimney cleaning. I have no chimney, and neither does my neighbor.... who i made the appt. for. I got a call from them the next day at 1pm, the time of the appt., but i missed it.... damn.
