Called me about 6 times in one week. I answered the first call - some guy telling me that I had signed up at a holiday fair for a free 3-night stay at a condo. They continued to call and I answered the last call with "Quit calling me!" and hung up. I've since added their number to my contact list and set the ringtone for the number to "silent."
This is a scam. They offer an expense paid vacation to a resort in Virgina. they said i won a contest, but I had to put down $75. no legit contest required purchase or deposit. They claim to give a $125 when you arrive, plus the $75 deposit. The woman i was speaking to claimed it was a $200 gift (125 + 75). i dont understand how the $75 dollars is a gift if I am giving it to them and then they are giving it back. i explained this but she was unable to comprehend how it was not really a gift of $200. i played along and annoyed the hell out of her. she asked about my previous travel experience. i told her i've never stayed in a hotel. she asked about my last vacation. i told her i was camping in a tent. she asked how much the camp grounds cost, i told her it was more like squating on people's vacant property as a hobo/drifter. she didnt understand this. she asked for credit card information for the $75 dollar deposit. i told her that i have no credit cards or bank accounts. she asked why. i told her that i didnt trust the banks and i keep my money in a box under my bed. "why ever would you do that?" - she was dumbfounded. anyways, eventually she realized i was f*cking with her and she hung up on me. pretty hilarious.
I had the same experience. Some one called me about blah, blah offer and connected to a lady. She explained about 3 D/2N offer in Massanuttern resort and 4D/3N offer in Florida and asking me to pay $75. I told her that i am not comfortable with giving the card over phone. She told me that the offer ends today and if she disconnect the line the offer would expire and she is ready to wait until i found the detail in the net. I put her on hold and had my dinner and check again. She was waiting in the phone. How can a representative, wait in a phone for 40 minutes. Definitely it is a SCAM. I unmute the phone and she was very particular about getting my credit card again after40 minutes wait. I told her "How about this, Thank you for holding. Let the offer go. i don't want to stay any free nights"
A person called stating that i won $125,000 from signing up at one of those sign up counters at the mall...It's funny because we've never signed up for any cash prizes at the mall. The person said that he needs both myself and my wife to claim the prize... This is a scam... It's sunday night...who the hell will call especially on a sunday night to tell you about winning money... SCAM!
I received the same call. Perhaps you don't remember signing up for the drawing, but I do. I went to the Super Pet Expo in northern Virginia two weekends ago, and apparently the "prize" was the Mass./Florida offer that others have been offered. While I concede that I did in fact "opt in" so to speak for this phone call, it's a shame that the drawing offered at the expo was so misleading. Upon entering the expo, you're actually given a slip to fill out for the drawing along with a program, and there is a long table set up for others to fill out slips as well. It was presented as a drawing for patrons as a prize, not as a timeshare/resort scam.
Pretty well-coordinated and planned scam.We got the same routine. Same phone number. Said we'd won a Massanuten resort stay, 3 days, 4 nights and some other chance to go to Orlando. When they asked for the $75.00 I immediately asked how we pay that and they said, someone would "come on the line" after we'd set up our dates (did I have my calendar out now, please?) and that we'd pay with a credit card, but when it was sent (later) in the mail, our card number would be xxxx'd out. Ha ha! My husband and I were both on the line and we said, "no, we aren't giving anyone a credit card number on the phone." And we hung up on them.We got two previous calls from them before we found out what they wanted. They said we won this by signing up at the Home Show in Germantown, MD. We did go to a home show, and probably signed up for SOMEthing, but I don't remember what it might have been. These people mentioned the Four Seasons Resort in Massanuten, VA., so they did their research. I think I am going to call Four Seasons and let them know this happened - see what they have to say.
They called me tonight and said I won a free trip to a ski resort. Ok, if it's free, why do I have a pay a $75 fee? I know, it's a scam!!
This number called saying that I won something from a form I filled out at Applebee's. They have called 4 times since 6:00pm-I thought I would return the call. I did and there was a general voicemail about Massanutten which I have not filled anything out from them. I believe to be a scam as it seems to follow the trend of several other posts. I have blocked them so hopefully will not hear from them again.
