reading the above posts, i must assume i'm being dunned by a medical bill collection company. i have always paid my bills the day they arrive, except medical bills. i have a son who has required serious medical care in his 17 years and we have so-called "health insurance" for our family of four. health insurance companies, as we all know, play a game of attrition which includes making mistakes on claims, always in their favor. they have taken their methods to new heights with this automated annoyance system. i, too, held on for ten minutes on one occasion, but no one got on the line. i won't do that again.

I waited just a couple of minues for an operator after pressing 9 as requested. Issue was for a recent bill for Children's Hospital (Boston) which had been billed to my old insurance co. I gave her my new plan number and group number and was done. Quick and painless.

Got the usual. "Message for [my name]. To retrieve this message, call us back [etc.]"

I called the number. It was answered "Business Office." I said I'd had a message that they had a message for me. They transferred me to another person who asked what number they'd called. I said "This one." She said "What is that number?" I said "Don't you have caller ID?" She said she needed the number to look up the message. I said if the message was important they could call me back. This makes about a dozen calls from these jerks. If I'm not doing anything important I like to call them back and waste their time.

Strange.. I call the number back and they said they were part of Duke Medical Center... My daughter did go to the emergency room, and we do owe a bill we just never got the bill. It was sent to the wrong address. They (Duke) said they did NOT send our bill to collections. I think this is a SCAM to get my information... we will work with Duke directly

Yes, I got the same message "this is not a sales or marketing phone call " thro relay. So I called back and the lady said that she was in the business office for hospital but never said her name and the name of the business office. I've told her my name and my daughter's birthday to verify. She said that I owe over $600 for hospital bill and had asked if I have second insurance they can bill. She was too friendly. It didn't sound like the financial office from Duke. I believe whoever I talked to may be a con artist. I was skeptical.

Message said not a sales or marketing call - asked for my husband, told him they had the wrong number. I don't have an outstanding medical bill.

I called Civista Hospital to verify this phone call. The 800 # is an outsourced agency for receivables. They work for many different hospitals and the phone call IS legit. Just wanted to let everyone know!

Got a call from this number, girl who spoke quietly called about a Business matter and to have the person call back.

The woman calling said she was from a *** Hospital and asked for my husband's date of birth to verify the account. I probably shouldn't have given her any information. I was smart enough the first time she called to tell her I do not give information to anonymous callers. However, she did know the amount of the copay and the date of service at the hospital bill. She did not ask for a payment and only wanted to know when we would be sending the copay. I think it could be a legitimate outside billing department that works for many hospitals.
