Was called and asked to confirm personal information. Told them that I was busy and was not available. I'm researching their number before I call them back but I will not give them any personal information. It seems strange that they're calling me since such a thing has never happened to me before. I'm not at all comfortable with this.
Providing against id theft, the caller from Target card checked my details on Sunday. It seemed fine with me.
While applying for a joint account credit card with my husband through the mail, I refused to put some of the information on the form. (Doesn't seem safe now a days to send certain things through the mail.) They called today, verified themselves and asked for the needed info. Was on the phone with Cindy for less then a minute. Appears safe to answer.
rcv'd two voicemails in the same day telling me to call this number. if this does have to do with a new credit card, i have never opened one and wouldn't especially when the caller id for these calls are either blocked or unavailable. i wouldn't give them any information and don't plan on calling them back.
It's legit. Target calling about an credit card application that was suspect. I'm glad they called. Very helpful explaining the fraudulent information used by the criminal. They even told me which Target store the bogus application was made at.
Yeah, they gave me the store location where the fraudulent application was made with my SSN. Problem is, they don't have a store there. Main Target switchboard could not verify the number that called me. It smells fishy to me...
I received a call today from Target who wanted to talk with my husband about some information he requested. Since he wasn't here, they insisted that he call them back. Sounds like a scam to me.
This is a follow-up to the posting I did 5/22. We received another call from the same number later in the day. This number is legit. Someone had applied for credit in my husband's name. We also received a Best Buy credit card in the mail which we had not applied for. Turns out that someone has my husband's social security #, birthdate, address and phone and has applied for a total of 6 instant credit cards in the past 5 days. Target is the only one which turned this thief down for instant credit. There are over $12,000 in charges made which we know about right now. Who knows what else is out there. Target was very helpful in identifying where the fraud happened and the discrepancy in the information that made them suspicious. We have frozen our credit, made a police report and have installed a locking mailbox so to try to prevent the future thefts. Hope this doesn't happen to you.
This number is legit. It is Target's New Accounts Department. I applied for a store card Thursday and they called Sunday to verify my details. The message they leave does sound shady, but I guess they don't want to come across as friendly in case they are dealing with fraudsters. If you call the main Target Visa number (800-755-5856) they may not know this direct number because they are just given an extension for the New Accounts Department. If you want to be safe, just call the main number and ask to be transferred.
The number is completely legitimate. They had left a message on my home phone asking to return the call and it seemed a little fishy to me. When I called back, I got a message stating that they were "Target Financial Services", I was then put through to a person who asked me to verify my name and address, which I gave them (it can be found in the phone book), but then they asked to verify my birthdate and I told her that I was uncomfortable giving that information as I didn't know what the reason for the call was. The woman told me that it was because of suspicious activity on my card, that they flagged. She then named the purchase to me, which turns out was a legitimate purchase made by me. So it seems like it is a general fraud department for Target.
