Don't know what popped up on the caller ID but the number they left was for John at 1-800-380-1196. Said they were AT&T looking for accounts payable. Seemed legitimate because he had the correct account number and cell phone number but he couldn't really speak english so I took a message.

This appears to be a collection call from AT&T wireless. Although the women calling identified her name, and that this was an important business matter that they needed to discuss about our business account and an account/refrence number - The call back number she that referenced was different that the one that appeared on our caller ID: 800-351-9056 and an extension 65142.

This call is from AT&T account collection department.

If your ATT the say so on the caller ID or leave a respectable message.

I received a voicemail message from this number two days in a row. They claimed to be the AT&T business receivables department calling about my wireless account. They had my account number, but did not address me by name. That account is not past due, so there was no reason for the call. I called 800-380-1196 and the rep claimed to be part of AT&T. She asked me to confirm account details, but I told her I suspected this was a scam and would not do so. She was very understanding and told me she would make sure my account is put on the do not call list. I then called the AT&T number on my phone bill: 800-947-5096. They also called themselves the business receivables department. They told me that they saw no record of any calls to me, that there would be no reason because my account was not past due, but that they did see my recent request to be put on the do not call list. That rep confirmed that 800-380-1196 is in fact AT&T business receivables. So, the number apparently does belong to AT&T, but they see no record of anybody from AT&T actually calling me from that number.

I have had this number come up for the past two days now and I don't even have an AT&T wireless or home account.

I keep receiving calls about an account number that doesn't belong to me. I believe this is a scam. If this were a true collection issue, I do not belive that someone would be calling my work number. I believe AT&T would be handling collections issues via mail and through legitimate collection agencies.

I got a call from the 800-380-1196 on 12-27-10 and was told that our account will be suspended due to non payment. I did mention that I am not past due and that AT&T needs to apply credit to my account and that is why payment has been made. My credit it for two months of service so I am not paying. He was nice about it and said okay, thank you. When I called AT&T on 12-28-10 and mentioned my conversation on 12-27-10, no record was noted on file.

that 800 number is an att number. they called me to verify the porting of my moms cell number to my brothers att account

It's AT&T's collection dept...pay your bills, people. :)
