Sorry, but I completely disagree: this IS a valid number for TD VISA, and they're calling to confirm the validity of transactions posted to your card if the activity looks suspicious to them -- out of country, unusual amounts, repeated transactions or attempts (see my posting further below).
1 888 347 3261 is TD 's loss prevention # , I had a voicemail from 1 800 466 7295 1794 - but TD had nothing on my file indicating they called & they provided me the loss prevention # as 1 888 347 3261 and NOT 1 800 466 7295 1794 !!!
I believe this IS legitimate. I had some failed attempts at an online transaction with my TD Visa a couple of nights ago before I finally got it right, and they just called to make sure it really was me. As posted below, they do not ask you for any information other than the three numbers in your postal code.
Call is 100% legitimate, however, if you don't trust it phone the TD # on the back of your card. Pick the automated options that lead you to false claims/etc and talk to the operator. They'll connect you to the loss prevention deparment if needed.Somebody got a copy of my card number and used it for purchases (within my province even).
This phone number is for TD Canada Trust. They asked about some recent unusual transactions on my credit card, and I was able to verify that everything is OK.
1-800-466-7295 called my phone three times today, but left no voice mail. If it really was TD calling me (and I do have a TD VISA) to ask about some suspect transactions, I would hope they would leave a message requesting that I call them back. My neighbour has had bad luck with credit card fraud a few times and the bank always leaves a message informing her that they are not making a courtesy call and could she please contact them.If I had a fake 1-800 number and I was trying to scam people, I'd hit every forum online with that number (like this one!) and fill it with fake messages trying to convince people that my number was real and not a scam. Just saying.
Just a follow-up. The number is for the "Loss Prevention Centre". If you have a TD Visa you may get a call from that number if TD suspected that someone may have used your card. They call from that number to follow up and check transactions if they were OK. When I called them now this was an interactive system where you did not necessarily have to talk to an agent. Hope this helps.
I received a voice mail from this number today saying they were from the TD Bank loss prevention centre. Because I was nervous about calling them back, I called the number on the back of my TD access card and asked them about it. They confirmed that is it a legitimate number and put me thorugh. I found out someone is attempting to use my VISA card to make online purchases. I have cancelled my card and they are shipping me a new one with a different number.
Same thing happened to me, dialed this number and found out that some *** in Italy was masquerading as me and tried to bill over $1000 of goods on my Visa. Makes you wonder why TD doesn't get with the times and include the onboard chip / pin extra security measure. I know I don't want to go through this again.
