Asian accented man says he's with the United States Census Bureau. Left this as a callback number. It was on my voicemail so I dont have the caller ID info.
I got the same call with number listed above an a reference number. I am not sure if this is real or scam
i got the same call and tweeted the US Census Bureau who told me to contact my regional office. my regional office told me it is a real and official call
**POST 1 OF 2**I received a few voice mails from 800-772-3069 with a case # ... I have Googled the number and this site, and others came up. Altho that number ISNOT listed on the US Census site as a official number they would call from, others state it's a part of the US Census. I will be calling them here shortly ( after my company leaves ) to see what this is all about. I did receive a US Census packet in the mail and it was legit. So thus could be part of that or a branch off so to speak ... I post the info about the call I make and what was determined from the call as soon as I can...
they left message on my answering machine. said that they were the census bureau and to call this number and also supplied a case number. I didn't return their call.
On 10/21/2010, there was a phone message from this number saying it was "the Census Bureau" and to call the toll-free number and mention a case number. I returned the call at 5:47 p.m. Central Time, and the number was answered by a female who said "US Census Bureau". She asked for the case number; I provided it and then was asked if my call was in reference to a phone message left at (my phone number which she stated). Then she wanted verification that I was (specific person in my household) because she had "questions on a survey" to be answered. When informed that I was not the named individual and that the person she sought would refuse to answer any phone surveys, she said she would mail the survey to the named individual at the address she had.
Bureau of the Census call with regards to the The National Survey of College Graduates. Not at all a telemarketing scam.
My understanding is the real US Census Bureau does *not* call or email, they will either send a written form or a live person with a real ID will show up at your door. I strongly suggest you call/email the real US Census Bureau and ask if this is for real. Without having looked into it, I won't *ever* give out info over the phone.
