I had a message to call CPRS after following the prompts I spoke to a lady, she informed me that it was a collection call for a magazine subscription from 3 yrs ago. I moved and never received the final bill. She is going to mail me the bill at my new adress so I can mail her a money order. I told her that I do not pay bills over the phone. She said that was fine. I never gave any information except my name and tel number.
Has been calling for 2 weeks leaving messages. My current wife called back and got a recording asking for bank routing info.My wife finally talked to a live person and found they were trying to collect a debt from someone else.
I have been receiving calls from 205-752-7762 for months but I don't owe any money to anyone. When I try to answer the phone call, it disconnects. When I let it go to the answering machine, a woman's voice says that this is not a sales call and that they are trying to collect a debt - Please call 1-800-873-5869.So I try to call and get through the multiple layers of automated phone questions only to be told that their offices are closed (which was 10 minutes before I called). I work nights and these phone calls have been waking me up so I am more that a little ticked.I just got another call today - the day after Thanksgiving - and since I am on holiday, I called back immediately and went through the numerous layers of automated phone questions AGAIN. I get some guy who does not identify himself and asks how he can help. I tell him that they have been calling me for months so what do THEY want? He says that they are trying to collect a debt from Jennifer Sims. I told him that's nice but this is MY number and I don't know any Jennifer Sims. He says that they will remove my number from their system. I told him that I work nights and I don't appreciate the months of phone calls. There is no answer. My phone display says that the call is still active but his end of the line is now silent. If that's how they want to play it, fine. I will send a letter to the BBB as well as my state's attorney general. Hope you will all do the same.
Calling here for months; no one at this address has any outstanding debt.Female voice --> This is not a sales call. It is an effort to collect a debt and any information given will be used for that purpose, etc. Please call 1-800-873-5869. Greeting message at that number is in a male voice that I very distinctly recognize from some context -- this is a person who records such messages professionally and whose voice should be very readily identifiable, though I cannot place it just now. There should be no problem identifying the man who recorded this part of the message. I am certain that he is well known. At any rate, he says that one will need one's "control number" and bank account and routing number -- so have your checkbook ready.Asks for control number or if you don't have one, say so. Then asks for phone number. I dialed 0, got "Bill"; gave him my phone number and he said this was given to them as number for "Paris Miller". Of course, there is no such person -- at least not here. He said they will remove this number. They have been calling her for a couple of months.
Ask for control number bank routing and account information. Replyed I had none. Ask for eight digit phone number and zip code. Said he found a debt of $172.90 and would I like to pay it now. I said no and they transfered me to a live operator. She ask me my phone number, I gave it and ask me if I was Debbie Chan as they had been tryin got reach her. I said no and they apologized and said my number would be removed from the list. Went pretty well actually after I decided to return the call to the 800 number.
Well, March 2010 and what Jodi posted is exactly the call and message upon return call that I received today except the original call shows 800 Service on caller ID. I have no idea what this is about or what the requested CONTROL # means. This 800 Service calls at least once/day.
CPRS/Certergy called me claiming I owed two nine dollar charges to Go Daddy. Called Go Daddy and they said nothing was owed them, and pointed out the charges they were talking about were for domains I purchased and we public record on whois internet listing. Told me it was a scam.I called my state attny general's office, who informed me that collection agencies must send out letters stating that a debt is owed and give 30 days for the consumer to dispute. I didn't get a letter, and all the internet accounts I read are all phone calls, no letters.I filed a complaint with my state and with the federal trade commission. Call your state and file a complaint and do the same on the FTC site.
Oh... and when they called back a few days later, they claimed that I now owed $68 dollars to Go Daddy for bounced checks. I don't write checks to Go Daddy.I told them that I had called Go Daddy, new it was a scam, and had filed complaints with the FTC and my state AG, and told them not to call me again. They said, "OK", and hung up.
