This is a legit TransUnion # for their fraud and dispute department. The call center folk use American names to make things easier.However, if you *receive* a call from this number, don't give them any info. Frauds can (and do) easily spoof an incoming number on your cell phone, and in theory, TU will never call you directly and ask for a SSN (note that if you call TU directly, they will ask you for SSN, first and last name, and possibly some other info for identity verification)If you do business with TU, call them directly using a # directly off their website.

It is a real Trans Union number. (I also verified this by going directly to the website... also googling to double check.) And, most importantly, the only number of any of the three major agencies that had a real, live person to speak with.

I just put a fraud alert on my credit online, I did it this early evening, and received a call from this number 800-916-8800, so there must be a connection, but I did not answer it. I don't answer those numbers, they can leave a message.

This is not a fake TransUnion number but yest their names are fake. They do this because American's find it difficult to pronounce their native names (haven't you seen Horrible Bosses?) Anyway, I called and did not give my full ssn. I gave the last four plus my name and address and they were able to pull up my credit report. They were also able to verify information on my credit report that I didn't not give them. So in short, the number is real; the names are fake.

Did anyone sign up to monitor their credit dispute online from the same people. I just don't feel comfortable with all this fraud going around.

At first i was scetchy about it. Told him i didnt want to give him my ssn he verified me other ways.This is not a scam number. This is the number. They are working on my fraud accusation as im typing this. Yes all have been indian but they have agreed with me that its fine to not give them my ssn.

Super shady. 1-800-916-8800 IS NOT THE SECURITY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSUNION. Do not call them they are scamming you for information. This whole thing is a hot mess!

i am not sure of this number. an indian guy by the name of clyde answered asked me for my ssa which i stupidly provided it then asked me to spell out my lastname.... when i asked why does he need me to spell out my lastname he got nervous n gave me a lame excuse that their systems need to be updated. i hung up now dont know who to trust.

Is this number fraudulant.

I just got done myself. I called to see how come my score went down a few points, and how I can correct that. He asked me and I told him my info. Something I'm really tight about. I keep my fingers crossed now
