same here, repeated calls, no message

Caller ID says Red Cross. I'm not answering. I used to be a regular donor, talked my husband into donating about 7 yrs ago, and we got a letter on a Friday afternoon when we got home from work saying he tested positive for HIV. Our whole world ended in our minds after reading that letter. We could not contact anyone since it was after 5 on Friday. We both went and had HIV tests done at a dr office, come to find out it was a FALSE Positive. I have not donated since and neither has he. P.S. A valuable lesson learned....never open mail you receive on Friday that you cannot contact someone about until Monday.

A while back, Red Cross added a new test that resulted in some false positives. I had the same experience of having a false positive result. I was initially insulted. However, as a scientist, I know these things happen - it is the nature of tests. So once I calmed down, I decided I should not take the result personally. If you feel committed about donating blood, contact the Red Cross and they can go through a reinstatement process to clear your record. I did and it was not a difficult thing to do. Blood donations are important and I understand there is a great need at present. My father was a regular blood donor. I do it as one way to honor his memory.
