I have just found out that this is happening to me and my husband. I talk to T-mobile till I was blue in the face but they would not remove the charges.

my husband is in the Netherlands and he keeps getting called by 1-805-637-7249 and never picks this call up. he called me to see if I could find out who this number belonged to. With lots of searching i type this number on google search site and found out that it belonged to T-mobile who We have been a customer with for the last 5 Years. I called them up and asked them why my husband keeps getting called by this number and we keep getting charged for these roaming charges. They told me that he is making the calls to this number. I talked to them until I was blue in the face but they will not remove the charges from my bill. They somehow have figured out to code this as a outgoing call from his phone, instead of a incoming calls, they told me if I could proof that it was a incoming calls I would be refunded, I'm not sure how I'am going to do this, but I certainly will try. This has been going on since July 17th. What I have done is have T-mobile block all messages into his phone.

I was in Kenya in August 2008 and know from other international trips that I can't retrieve voicemail when overseas. I may have tried accidentally once but ended up with 8 charges to this voicemail number totalling $50. Haven't called T-Mobile yet, but will shortly. I also got another charge called "RIM Blackberry" for $36 that makes no sense to me. I hope T-Mobile will be more accommodating than with others...

I had a similar issue. I was in South America and saw the voice mail indicator on (my phone was on in case of emergency). I was expecting an important voice mail, but did not want to pay the outrageous roaming charges, so I started researching for ways to retrieve voicemail from a regular landline (I mean if regular phone service can do it, why wouldn't cell phone service do it...wishful thinking). I ended up trying this number, which I found in T-Mobile's website, several times, because the machine kept asking me for a PIN which I had no clue about. Finally I figured it out and was able to get my VM, so I figured this would work like a charm going forward.... until I got my bill charging me 2.99 for each call to that number. I could not understand why T-Mobile would charge me for calls that I made from a landline (or how they could even know about the calls). My guess is when I made each call, since it was a VM gateway, it would ask me for my mobile number and from then they would creatively (or mistakenly, depending on your personal opinion of cell phone carriers) make that show as an outgoing call. I called them and told them I could not understand how those calls would end up on my bill. They spent a couple minutes "investigating" (not sure what there was to investigate) and came back saying they would refund me all calls to that number this time (it wasn't a lot, about $56), but that they thought this was weird and that if it ever happened again they probably would not be able to refund me. Obviously, there is no way I am using that gateway again and will have to go back to wait to check VM until I get back to the US.You would expect from a customer oriented organization they would develop and easy way to check VM from abroad w/o roaming charges, but then again the big assumption here is that they are a customer oriented organization.

I too have gripes about what I call Trash-Mobile (that's what the T stands for). I know this is a late reply considering you said you couldnt officially end your contract until Dec 2008 (and I'm writing this is Jan '09) but for other readers, the only solution is to have someone else take over your account. You can officially switch the acct holders name if you go to a T-Mobile store. I dont know what's involved, but here in New York on Craigslist I've seen many ads of peoples' posts offering to dump their carrier and asking for someone to take over the remaining contract that they no longer want to be in. When my contract expired, I kept T-Mobile, but I am not under contract with them. I've been able to still use my phone regularly. A friend told me that its better to NOT be under a contract with them because if anything goes wrong, you call up their Cust Svc and threaten to drop them entirely and as a result, you should find they're a little more accomodating. Good luck.

This is T-Mobile's voicemail. When there is a busy or "no answer" the caller is forwarded to voicemail, 805-637-7249, FROM THE PHONE. This is a forwarded call and is charged from the phone wherever it is turned on. The caller is talking from USA to your phone (wherever it is) and back to T-Mobile voicemail. The return trip is billed by the minute at roaming rate on your dime.If you're in Canada, you get billed from Canada back to USA. If Egypt, you get billed for forwarding from Egypt back to USA. You can wade through your phone's menus and see "call forwarding" when busy, when no answer, and call forwarding in general. This is a function of your phone.Maybe T-Mobile can turn this feature on or off. I tried to change it with my phone menu and it reverted back to 1-805-637-7249. I'd recommend keeping your T-Mobile phone turned off when you leave the country. Maybe use only text messaging.

I've had the same roaming charges all over the world from t-mobile (S. America, Europe, Istanbul, China, etc.) I never make calls but want to keep my phone on in case people text me. The charges are outrageous and T-Mobile won't do anything about it. Like the other said, the only way is to keep your phone turned off while out of the country.

We just had a large bill with the same Roaming charge issue. As we were overseas, we had the phone turned off most of the time, but we were charged with the Roaming charges (in our case $1.99/min.) for calls made to this number.I just finished speaking with TIM (ID# 0732775) of T-Mobile's call center, and he stated that we definitely made all the 23 calls. He lectured me that I should remove the International Roaming service, if I do not want the calls to show up anymore. The bill shows the calls as an outgoing call, but that was proof enough that T-Mobile is doing this on purpose. As another post stated, even if you have the phone turned off, if you get a call it automatically goes into the Voice Mail service box. Since we were in the International Roaming zone, T-Mobile charges us for the call transfer to the Voice Mail box. T-Mobile still needs to pay the local phone company for using their network.Needless to say, we cancelled T-Mobile.I would advise anyone that uses T-Mobile to do the same.Tim (ID# 0732775) would not even discuss about the possibility that they were wrong, since T-Mobile will not pick-up any International Roaming charges (whatever it may be).I guess a German company like T-Mobile doesn't understand what customer service is all about.
