Same here, saying boss called to cancel and I needed to agree to invoice so we could get a cancellation number. Done heard enough of their calls that I like to mess with them a little. So be prepared. Can't wait till they call back next time. Maybe they will get the drift.
I received one of these scam calls that tried to get me to accept an invoice of $599 that I did not authorize. number on my caller id was347 418 0489 instead of 855 797 2437. I talked first to a man and then a woman.
I have been called about 5 times continuously at work. As soon as I put them on hold they call my other line. Very Harrassing. Have never had someone be so rude and annoying. It's hard to conduct business when they tie up your phone lines continuously. I wish I knew Who I could report them to.
Still going on. Got a call at my company today from the Public Yellow Pages. Looked fishy so I investigated and found this site. I reported them to the FTC but I don't expect anything to be done about them. I hate to punish all honest businesses, but don't do business over the phone. Get everything in writing; if it isn't recorded it never happened.
I just received another call (fifth?) from these scammers at publicyellowpages.com. The number was "out of area" or I would post it here. These scammers are INCREDIBLY brazen. They have no fear, and never seem to break "character" on the phone, even when they have been called out. I am a small business owner and I have reported them to the IC3 (internet crimes center), my State Attorney, and the FTC. First contact with them came from what seemed like a foreign call center about 4 months ago when they insisted I had an advertising account with them. After repeatedly refusing to agree to the bill and hanging up on them a couple times, I insisted that they send me some proof that I owed the bill, or stop harassing me. They then transferred me to another man who was a good english speaker. This guy pretended to be confused as to why the call center was telling me "to answer all his questions with either a yes, or no, and then I could ask questions after." The good english speaker agreed that was weird, and offered to answer any questions. After calming me down a bit, he then started a recording that took basic information from me like my fax number, address, and a strange question about "was I authorized by my company to receive the bill", etc.) Realizing I was being recorded, and that this was likely the "gotcha" question, I thought I destroyed the recording by clearly stating on the recording that I "in no way agreed to this charge, I have no idea why you guys are calling me, and if the only way I can get you guys to stop calling me, is by admitting I am authorized to handle everything for my company, then yes, I am the authority you need to deal with." After reporting them to all the fraud groups, I never hear from them until yesterday when a woman called and said she had a verbal authorization from me agreeing to the bill. The voice on the recording might have been me, but the person asking the questions on the recording was now a WOMAN, not a man! They had completely doctored the recording by cutting and pasting my verbal responses into questions that were never even asked of me. They even got my gender wrong on the fake recording, referring to me as a woman at one point. I am SHOCKED at how aggressive these people are. I called the 800 number on their website publicyellowpages.com and got a live voice. I asked her for their mailing address so I could send in a check. She asked for my invoice number, and I said "I didn't have it in front of me." This prompted her to put me on hold, and after about a min or two, I was transferred straight to the lady who has been harassing me with these scam calls. I asked her for her address and she wouldn't give it. After she threatened me about how my bill was now going to "collections" and that it would double, she gave me her address to send the check. 405 Lexington Ave, 26th Flr New York, NY 10174. Yep, that is the Chrysler Building, and after some easy checking, the 26th floor is a "virtual office" where anyone can contract to share that address to "look official". The company with the "virtual office business" is not involved directly I don't think, just a smart cover for a scam company.
I was cold called by a man who identified himself as Ross Taylor (Station ID 5010) from Public Yellow Pages on Sept. 1, 2011. He told me that ads had been running on behalf of my business, Joys Japanimation, for two years and it was time to pay the bill and close the account. I was shocked by this and told him I never authorized any such listing and he told me that to dispute the charge I had to receive the bill and state a claim against it with cancellation code N5246921 and state on the bill that I did not authorize it and he would make a note on my listing. He then transferred me to the billing dept. where I was told to answer only "yes" or "no" to a series of questions. I feel very foolish that I went through with this but became suspicious immediately after and saw a series of posts about this being a scam.He gave me 855-797-2437 as the customer service number. I looked the number up online. and after trying and trying to reach it that night, I connected the next day and inquired about my account and was told that I did not have any account on record.I heard nothing from them until about an hour ago (01102012, 4:33 EST). I received a call from 1-800-334-1996 from a man who identified himself as Richard Webber saying that I now owed $900 for an account that I opened in September. After arguing with him and getting very angry with him, he played me the recording supposedly authorizing the opening of an account. When I told him that the original operator had told me an entirely different story he said that wasnt possible and told me the I was very stupid for authorizing something that I wasnt comfortable with and that it didnt matter anyway as this was a legally binding agreement and it would destroy my credit score for 7 years if I didnt pay it. He then offered me a deal of paying only the original amount and putting me on a Do Not Contact list but I declined, since I am convinced this is a scam.
I received a call from this number today as well (1-800-334-1996 x 408) and was told we had an outstanding balance of $599.99 for account # N5251206. Same story as the post by "Steve R" - he played a recording of yes and no answers. I guarantee that I did not authorize anything and argued with "Tyler Wood" for the public yellow pages collection department. I ended up hanging up on him. This is a total scam.
We have been dealing with these same phone calls all week from the same numbers as Sandy and Steve R. but Jake Green is our guy. It is ridiculous! I am so angry! I am making calls to any agency I can to complain and get them shut down including the FTC, police, AT&T and the Attorney General in NY. I would suggest that you all complain as much as you can. These people are evil!
Please put in a complaint to the FTC. If they see patterns then they will investigate and hopefully shut these people down. Just call and give them the info about Cal and Marty and both the Canadian and NY addresses. It's the only way to stop them!
I got another call from Richard Webber today. Once again, he kept threatening my credit score when it gets turned over to a collection agency. While I am concerned about what comes next, I refuse to be manipulated by these people and am willing to do what it takes to fight this.In the middle of the call, I asked him directly if he believed me when I said I was lied to by "Ross Taylor" and he said 'yes.' He immediately went back on script about me needing to pay, but that surprised me. I have put in complaints to the FTC, PA attorney general (where I am located), IC3, filed them as a scam with the US BBB, and filed a direct complaint with the Metropolitan NY BBB. I will be contacting the NY Attorney General now -- hadn't thought of them before seeing jswan's reply.Anyone being contacted by these guys please put in complaints on them, especially with the FTC. The more agencies we all hit, the better. The more complaints any of them get, the better the odds of investigation.
