This number has called everyday for a week asking for the owner of the company who is NEVER in the office. If he made an appointment with someone, or was looking for a call back, he would not give out our main number. They call every morning near 9am and after hearing the owner is not in nor does anyone know if he will be in, they have 6 more people call asking and only 2 of them actually leave a message. They've even begun calling all other buildings in our company asking for the owner. First they were from the Commerce Division, then they were from the Department of Economic Development and now they're from Todd Shepard's office....whoever that is. Every person who calls is rude and pushy and persistent and it makes me wish I didn't have to answer the phone for them.
Been getting persistent calls from this number, with both male and female callers claiming to be from the Commerce Dept., asking for the president of the company by name. When I ask them why they are calling, they say it is a personal matter. Also, after I told one caller the president was not available and did he want to leave her a voicemail, he then told me he was told this was the best time of the day to reach her. I questioned who gave him that information and he told me that it was from a note he had on his desk. He then asked if I could go find her so he could talk to her, but I explained she worked in our corporate office in another city and I had no idea if she was in the office or not. So he did finally agree to leaving her a voicemail, but since then I discovered this was a scam call and I now just hang up on them.
I just got a similar call and as reported above Julie got rude when I told her the number was showing as a scam. She told me this had to do with a City of Mayors, I asked her what city and she told me the US cities. Clearly it was a scam. I hate that they are allowed to do this. A waist of my time.
Stan claimed he is calling from New Commerce Division of NY and that at the beginning of this year he spoke to the owner. New the owner's first name (everybody can look that up in the internet). Then wanted to meet with him or at least get his cell phone number. Also wanted to leave a voice mail (not possible in my company). Said will call another time. I can not wait.
Natalie with the Commerce Division of the State of Maryland (there is no such thing) asked for the owner by first name. I put her on hold and did an internet search on the number because caller ID said "800 service", which is typically a solicitor or robo call. Got back on the line and told her I could not locate the owner, but would gladly take a message. She declined and said she would call back later. I'll share the results of my internet search if she calls back again.
JULIE called asking for owner of company, claims to be calling from a "Todd Sheperds office". Double checked with the owner, he knows no one by that name. Gave the caller the gentle info that owner was unavailable, would she like voicemail? Got VERY pushy and rude (speaking over me, note to scammers - if you want to get PAST the receptionist/secretary, being rude is not the way to go about it), claimed she didn't mind waiting on the line while I paged the owner, said he had an appointment with Mr Sheppard tomorrow, he's the DIRECTOR of state stimulus. Put her on hold, and just to be safe, checked with the owner again - he had NO appointments planned for the next day. Came back to Julie, let her know that owner has no appointments, best I could was voicemail. She got pushy again, saying her boss has this appointment, and she NEEDS to get some info for him before he gets there. I again, gently said best I could do was voicemail. She literally HUFFED on the phone and said "fine". Guess who called back again today and tried the same scam? Yep. Voicemail again.
The man on the phone was RUDE, he claimed to had made an appointment with our owner (who is partially retired) and when I said he hadn't been in the state in over a month he asked.," Does X always DO this?" I said, "Do what sir?" He said, "MAKE APPOINTMENTS with people and then NOT show up for them or FOLLOW up?" It was ridiculous.
Stanton Martin claiming to be from the Commerce Division of the State of New Hampshire. Wanted to speak with company owner who he claims to have spoken with earlier in the year. Owner had no clue who he was. Caller was horrified and insulted that he was not remembered and said "X must be having a senior moment." Rude. Owner is only 45 years old.
